Personal Information

A slight, somewhat plain figure, Caroline has been part of Brisbane's history for a long time. She's still nowhere near as old as a lot of Brisbane's residents, but she's been living in Brisbane for longer than anyone else. Almost.

Admittedly, this fact is almost entirely due to her notorious lack of political drive. Despite the fact that her hundredth year of Embrace is rapidly approaching, she's never risen beyond the standing of Recognized, nor has she held a court position beyond an extensive stint as Deputy in her younger years. It seems that rather than looking upward and seeking to dance on a higher stage, she prefers to teach those who are struggling to learn the steps of the Danse Macabre.

Typically, this means she'd be crushed, but many of those who have risen through the court still remember Rivers fondly. They remember the help and advice she offered when they were still young and barely acknowledged. Before they surpassed her.

Appearance

In contrast to those who have had their looks highlighted by the Embrace, Caroline's been reduced by it. Her skin still has the faint yellow of jaundice, and a small trail of cowpox scars trail down her jawline and neck. Her figure's tall, thin, and bony, with delicate hands and long fingers.

She's nearly always dressed conservatively; it's not uncommon to see her dress in white or pale blue outfits faintly reminiscent of a nurse's outfit, and her hair's always proper, neatly pinned up. A light touch of make-up completes the effect.

Personality

In contrast to her neat, faintly vintage appearance, Caroline's polite, but realistic. She might prefer off-color conversations, but she'll still advise a young Daeva how best to use her looks to feed. She's always studiously avoided killing those she feeds on, but many a neonate's 'accident' has been disposed of, quietly, thanks to her.

While she's talented at identifying problems and the framework, she struggles a lot at finding solutions. It seems like her habit of taking in new Kindred is an excellent way to correct that weakness.

Mortal World

Rivers has no presence in the mortal world. While she endeavoured to maintain connections to it and stay up-to-date, it started moving faster than she could keep up with in the early nineties. Since then, she's been forced to simply learn what she can as the rest of the modern world tears away from her.

Information Known by Kindred Society

Most Kindred who've been in the court for a while have realised Caroline's lack of ambition to 'rise' in Kindred society. A lot of her attention is devoted to those who're taking their first steps in Brisbane's court, as she helps them find their footing and learn how to dance their Requiem. Doing so also seems to stave off boredom. As a rule, she's rather polite, but like any Kindred, she can snap if pushed too hard.

She's adverse to taking political risks, but Princes and Prisci who neglect fledgling Kindred can irritate her enough to do something about it.

Timeline

• 1915 - Historical records indicate that Zenobia granted her Sire permission to Embrace in February. She was released and acknowledged by the Prince just before Christmas.
• 1922 - Appointed as a Deputy. She proved to be remarkably well-suited to the role.
• 1929 - The Sheriff of Brisbane is murdered by Shifters. A group of fledglings [?] identify the culprits, after being given a lead from Caroline.
• 1960 - Resigns as Deputy, in light of Zenobia's murder of Gerome Star, the Priscus Harpy.
• 1961 - Takes one of her few political risks during a Court Gathering at Cloudland, by publicly attacking Zenobia's recent actions. She manages to rattle Zenobia long enough with Nightmare to Obfuscate and flee, thanks to the actions of a few Court members. [?]
• 1969 - Ulrich Volmark takes Praxis in the wake of Zenobia's absence. Caroline is not reinstated as Deputy, but continues to assist the Court in managing and teaching New Kindred until they find their place in the Danse Macabre.
• 2013 - Departs a Court gathering abruptly after a phone call, and fails to attend a previously requested meeting with the Prince. She's found by a Kindred [?], torpid, in a dumpster outside the Court Gathering, in what is eventually discovered to be a retaliatory attack from the returned Zenobia.
