Personal Information

Appearance

Mask: Baudecia’s mask is that of a forty-year-old woman with hair that is just beginning to turn silver, and an apparent liking for dark lipsticks and nail polishes. Her left eye is missing, replaced with what appears to be a glass eye

Mien: Her skin resembles that of burnt parchment. Her nails and lips are the colour of black-brown ink and her missing left eye has been replaced by a token which looks very much like a brilliant-cut topaz. Her hair reaches just past her shoulderblades and is very thick and wavy, and violet in colour

Personality

Baudecia can be exceptionally overbearing and arrogant, and tends to take a ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude. She rarely, if ever, minces her words and cares little for any offense that may be taken by her behaviour. She has a rather pessimistic outlook, a quick temper and an extreme dislike for Changeling society in general. Baudecia is also known to be reluctant to take pledges of any description except in circumstances where swearing a pledge might prove to be to her distinct advantage. She is also a very private and secretive woman and, as such, takes a strong disliking to anyone who invades her privacy or ‘meddles’ in her affairs without just cause. It should be noted that, although she is officially recognised as a Goblin Queen, this is a title that she seldom uses openly and she generally prefers to be addressed as ‘Professor’ instead. In fact, she will quite abruptly object to being referred to by the title of ‘Queen’ except in very specific circumstances.

Mortal World

Baudecia works at a Headmistress at a very exclusive all-girls’ Secondary School. The school itself has a reputation for being one of the best, and Baudecia has a certain reputation amongst both her students and her staff of being very strict and stern, but also a willing source of sound advice to anyone in need of it. Of note, not one student has ever been suspended or expelled from the institution since she took up the post of Headmistress.

Information Known by Lost Society

As one of the oldest confirmed living Changelings in Adelaide, Baudecia’s very existence was largely forgotten for many years, up until her re-emergence into society in June of 2014. The scant details she has given about herself have been difficult to verify. It is now widely known throughout Adelaide that she bears the title of a Goblin Monarchy and that she is one of three known Goblin Monarchs currently active in the city. She employs a goblin named Hekatrix to act as a personal assistant and bodyguard, with most of his current duties being related to communication and liaison with the local Freehold of Hidden Treasures. Unfortunately Hekatrix’s attempts to assist in this capacity are generally more of a hindrance than a help. Baudecia has claimed that she was a member of the Heart and Hearth Freehold from her escape in 1957 until a few months prior to its demise in 1974, and that she was pledged as a Good Neighbour to the newly-formed Freehold of Hidden Treasures from 1975 for several years. At present this is unverified and she has refused to disclose the reason she finally broke contact to all but one.

Timeline

  • 1957 – Escaped from Arcadia. Found by a member of the Autumn Court and taken to the Freehold of Heart and Hearth, to whom she pledges as a member. Later joins the Autumn Court herself. Loses her left eye in a battle with a Hedgebeast.
  • 1967 – Is awarded West Court Goodwill
  • 1970 – Secures employment as a History teacher at an all-girls Secondary School
  • 1974 – Allows her Freehold Pledge to dissolve, just three months before Spring Queen Mab becomes the Queen of Dreams and obliterates what is left of the Freehold.
  • 1975 – The Directional Monarchs form the Freehold of Hidden Treasures and threaten local Changelings with Banishment if they do not swear the new Freehold Pledge. Baudecia declines, but is permitted to remain in the city on the condition that she maintain a Good Neighbour’s Pledge and assists the Freehold where possible.
  • 1980 – At the request of a group of local goblins, leads an uprising against the then-reigning Goblin King, killing him. Is presented with a token, the Eye of the Beholder. Some goblins offer her their loyalty whilst others begin to fear her.
  • 1987 – The Massacre of the Seasonal Courtiers. The Monarchs are either unable or unwilling to identify those responsible and bring them to justice. Baudecia cuts off all contact in disgust, dissolving her Good Neighbour’s Oath and also renouncing her membership of the Autumn Court.
  • 1988 – Promoted to Headmistress. Hires Hekatrix the Goblin to act as a Personal Assistant and bodyguard
  • 1989 – Learns that an old acquaintance has turned Privateer. Kills aspiring Goblin Queen Maurice.
  • 1993 – Reigning West Monarch Qiu Zhang withdraws Baudecia’s Goodwill with the West Court on the grounds that no one within the Freehold has succeeded in contacting her for years and she is presumed to be dead.
  • 1998 – Baudecia is informed that the local Goblins consider her to be their Rightful Queen. She reluctantly resolves to use her title to attempt to instil some order and morality in the Goblin population and drafts a lengthy and complex Code of Laws for the goblins to abide by. Any breach of this Code is declared to be Treason and Baudecia encourages rumours that the penalty is Death.

Arcadia

Baudecia was brutally and relentlessly tortured during her time in Arcadia. Her skin turned to parchment upon arrival and she was frequently tied to a spit and rotated over a roaring fire. At first the burns she sustained healed easily enough, but as time wore on they took longer and longer to heal, until they became permanent marks on her skin. This constant abuse almost completely drained any empathy or compassion the woman had; she is capable of mimicking these things certainly, but many have their doubts as to whether she is capable of actually genuinely feeling them.

Escape

Baudecia eventually sought help from the shadows within the deepest, darkest recesses of Arcadia. Soon enough they granted her a Contract and taught her the technique of using the shadows to hide herself from view. And so one afternoon, whilst her Keeper was preoccupied with another of his pets, she took her chance, cloaking herself in shadows before making a run for it. It took some time, but she finally managed to locate a Hedge Gate back into the mortal world and passed through it. However, the strain of her escape drained her of her glamour and she was unconscious when found by an Autumn Courtier. He managed to revive her just enough for her to give him her name and beg him to help her find somewhere safe, and so he took her to meet his Monarch and mentor, Autumn King Gregory Chase of the Heart and Hearth Freehold.
