Freehold Motleys

First Response

"Give them nothing, but take from them... everything!"

- Leonidas, 300

Newly escaped Lost from The Hedge are the most valuable resource for the Freehold, without the ability to rescue them the Freehold would die. A group of Changeling experts in tracking down and retrieving new Lost and taking them to safety all the while contesting with the Loyalist servants of The Others.

The Corruptibles

"Well, I suppose the first thing you should know about us is... we have people everywhere."

- Mr. White, Quantum of Solace

Their purpose it to act as information network for the rest of the Freehold. The Others are constantly at work in their plans, in order to counteract them we must know not only what they are doing, but we must know before even they do. The Lost of the Corruptibles take care to make sure that the freehold never allows infiltrators again since the Shatter.

The Certain Hour

"One thousand little worlds die one thousand little deaths as you brush past the veil of your eyelids."

- The Narrator, Little Worlds

The Others never sleep... But The Lost do. When we sleep, we dream. When we dream, we are vulnerable. Except for the Oneiromancers of the Certain Hour. These Lost employ their knowledge of the occult to advise the Freehold, and when necessary their more arcane skills to defend it against the incursions of Dream Taint, Incubi, and rogue or hostile Oneiromancers.

The Rangers

"I want to see what's out there... to see what lies beyond the sunset."

- Vyse, Skies of Arcadia

Not all threats come through in secret, or in dreams, most in fact simply brute force themselves through the hedge and from the deep places of the world. The Rangers roam the edges of The Hedge and other unknown places of the map to make sure that The Freehold knows about everything they aren't simply able to deter.

The New Life

"That's what moms are like — if you mess with their babies, they'll bite you back."

- Ursa, Avatar: the Last Airbender

The House of Janus is all at once teachers, carers, rehabilitators and observers. The final point of contact before a Free changeling is released into greater autonomy. They take the new Lost from the Information Network, teach them what they have become, what has changes since they were taken, and help them onto their feet in the real world. They ensure that the Lost do not release madmen into the world.

Spring Revelers

(NPC's at Starting - PC's are welcome to join)

This isn't so much a motley, as simply a group of Lost who have decided to opt out of their duties to the Freehold. Locked in their gated community on the edge of Indooroopilly Golf Course, these Lost have extended an open invitation to any who would attent their party. Looked down upon as pathetic almost universally, they do not attend Lost gatherings for almost any purpose other than the Freehold Pledge or direct orders from the Monarchs.

The Pale Watchers

(NPCs)

Oneiromancy is a dangerous art, even for an accomplished sorcerer, and not all who walk the skein make it back to their homes. Some are lost to the dreams, felled by unspeakable creatures or cut off from their escape routes and then tossed into the hypnogogic ocean. The Autumn Court does not abandon these unlucky few; and in Brisbane maintains a small private facility where their sleeping bodies can be cared for without troubling questions. This place, known as the Sepulchre, is maintained and guarded by a motley known as the Pale Watchers; a handful of Autumn Courtiers who have taken on the duty of caring for their twice-lost fellows.

  • Michiko – Darkling Antiquarian
  • Rufus – Beastkin Hunterheart (Grizzly Bear)
  • The O’Reilly Triplets – Wizened Chirugeons

Hounds of War

(NPC's)

At one point the standing army of the Freehold for full scale conflicts against the Loyalists. During the events of 2010 they were nearly entirely wiped out. As they currently stand, they're closer to a veterans club than anything like an actual army.

The Unsworn

These are members of the freehold who are without the protection of the Motley Pledge.

Antagonist Groups

The Hunters

  • Jack Rover - A relentless Beastkin Headhunter.
  • Grant - A Stonebones brawler, not much of a talker, but hits like a train.
  • Chris Wavefall - A beautiful Fairest descriptions of her vary greatly.
  • Greg Weisman - A darkling lurkglider, a gargoyle like man. Genuinely seems unhappy with what he's doing.
  • Elise - A spider skitterskulk, sensual and deadly. You never see her coming until you feel the bite.
  • Tyson - A mist elemental, a beautiful charming man. Very hard to dislike.
  • Cain - Little is known about this wizened.

A Rumour

When Gallows Song, one of the Autumn court survivors failed to arrive at the Spring Revel in 2011, word got around that he'd been being followed lately. Gallows Song, a Darkling Gravewight/Nightsinger, was never a big player in the Freehold and kept a fairly low profile. He'd long been disconnected with the Brisbane Freehold, and expressed ideas of leaving for another city, so it was assumed when his apartment was found neatly cleaned out, that he had finally done just that.

However some of the more alarmist stories still spread claiming that he somehow caught the attention of a group of Loyalists that's avoided notice within the city and has been hunting specific Lost, like Gallows Song. Some say they're recruiters, others say they have a list of names from our Freehold and they aren't leaving until they've crossed every name off that list.
