Guide for Discord Use

Welcome to the St Louis hosted Discord server. This is a guide to help you fit in smoothly.

In General

• Amri is VST (Venue story teller), Lee is avst (assistant venue story teller). We have some chat moderators (Mr.H/Anya/Amy/Shaper). We also have some DST, MST and others around. Please follow directions from these individuals and ask if you aren’t sure.
• A channel guide can be found at the bottom of this page. Please use the correct channel for the discussion. As we are somewhat large, following this as much as possible helps us keep organized and sane. Don’t feel bad if someone asks you to move a discussion. Even the management messes that up now and then, just shift on over (you can find Key Locations here.)
• Cursing is a thing, so fair warning. NSFW posts in OOC need to be kept to a minimum, as some of us check discord at work and work in places where certain materials could get us fired.
• The “Announcements” channel is used for, well, announcements, PLUS NSFW rps. If you have an RP that is NSWF (keep ERP to non-public rooms or PMs please), post what channel and the time it starts and ends in Announcements due to listed reasons in #3.
• If your RP is going to be a big scene and probably requires ST guides, please ask before you start it. We have lives too and may already BE running something. Don’t melt our brains.
• Dice! There is a channel for your dice rolls. See number 1 below.
• The push pin at the top of the channel often has posts pinned you want to read!
• Golden rule, enough said.

In character notes

• <p> pause and a power use that requires a roll (there is a channel for rolls using /r Xd10! >=8 where X is the number of dice, ! means 10-again, and >=8 is the success threshold). ALSO, this should probably be a thing that is used rarely or under direction of your STs.
• <s> Skill use, often is a private message and mediation moment for you and the other PC(s)
• *Action goes in here* gives you italics in discord, and is how you show PC actions.
• <L> (language that is not English) and <F> (first tongue) are generally used to indicate a conversation is not in English. Private message players involved if you aren’t sure if you’d be able to understand them or not. First tongue, High Speech, Italian, and Russian are all used a lot at the moment.
• /fin indicates scene is done and channel is open for more use.
• (( parentheticals )) are a way to make a OOC comment mid rp. Suggestion is to make it on it’s own line so you can delete it once whatever is needed to be dealt with is. Examples: ((pause!)) or ((what is your chara wearing?))
• Timestamp in some way when an RP starts. For example: [Saturday, noon] or [Timeline Current]
• Do not godmod! Leave the other pcs (and ST controlled NPCs) control of their character’s actions (random NPCS you use to create mood is different). Godmodding will get you swatted. Worse, it might make people not want to RP with you because no one likes their character to be deprived of choice by another PC. Exception: Mediation of some sort where the other PC agreed to said actions.
  • Example of godmodding that does not allow John to respond, use Celerity to get out of the way, etc.: *George enters the room and shoves John out of the way.*
  • Better because it allows John a response: *George enters the room and tries to shove John out of the way.*
• Those with multiple characters, please be careful to note who you are being in some way. Example: *Anya walks into Boire looking for Lee or Billy* instead of *Walks into Boire* or *She walks into Boire*.
• City Map with territories, important locations, etc.:
• List of PCs and wiki pages (using ooc knowledge IC will get you swatted): St. Louis Cross Genre CofD
• List of known NPCs (that can only be used with permission): St. Louis NPC Masterlist
• Update your wiki with character stuff. This helps us set scenes, know what your character looks like, etc.
• Remember that “my character would do it” does not excuse IC behavior OOC. It is always good practice to discuss sensitive material before an RP takes place. OOC matters more than IC. IC is fiction. OOC is real feeling, real people, and real relationships. Ergo, don’t be a dick.
• [ [Brackets] ] are Typically used by STs or Moderators to set up a scene at the beginning, describe whats going on OOCly, etc. Example: [ [Wednesday at 4 p.m. the water in the fountain turns red and smells of copper.] ].

  • #announcements: Announcements by the Storyteller team. Place for NSFW RP warnings (channel and starting time and ending time).
  • #game_help_line: Discussion of game rules. Sts/AMST-Rules will accept questions, if they are actually relevant to the game and not abstract theorycrafting. Other wise feel free to discuss.
  • #dice_rolls: Dice rolls only. Please place any commentary in #ooc_current_gameplay_related.
  • #ooc_nerding_out_respecfully: Discussion of various topics about non-game nerdery, from other games to sci-fi shows.
  • #ooc_current_gameplay_related: Discussion of actual current gameplay. Not for random rules questions unrelated to active scenes; use #game_help_line.
  • #ooc_general: A non-game social room. Please direct any game-related matters to other rooms.
  • #vss_meeting: For use during active voice-chat led meetings to discuss the St. Louis VSS. Used for those without a mic and to record information.
  • #General_Voice_Chat: A non-game social voice chat.
  • #boire_dj: The latest hot tracks at Boire.
• IC GENERAL PUBLIC LISTS
  • #city_news_and_imp_stuff: General city information you'd hear on a radio, in a newspaper, or through local rumors. If you would like to follow up on this information, contact the posting aVST.
  • #ic_general In character roleplay that does not fit into a channel for a specific location. This channel is also used to move an RP that is blocking up another channel due to extended response time or is time-jumped.
  • #ic_general_2 In character roleplay that does not fit into a channel for specific location if #ic_general is taken. This channel is also used to move an RP that is blocking up another channel due to extended response time or is time-jumped.
  • #st_louis_city_hall: For RP at City Hall. The mayor is usually found here.
  • #bjc_hospital: Barnes Jewish Hospital. Carlos works here.
  • #botanical_gardens: The beautiful Missouri Botanical Gardens, the nation's oldest botanical garden and a National Landmark. Home of festivals, celebrations, ecological stewardship, and of course, flowers.
  • #downtown_general For RP at any downtown location that does not have a specific channel. Examples are Busch Stadium, City Museum, the Gateway Arch, Kiener Plaza, the Old Courthouse, the Old Cathedral, Peabody Opera House, and Union Station. See the Downtown STL website for more locales.
  • #lambert_airport For RP at Lambert International Airport. You know, for when you're leaving on a jet plane and don't know if you'll be back again.
  • #the_loop For RP at any of the locations found in "The Loop", labeled one of the 10 Great Streets in America. The Loop is six blocks of Delmar Blvd. full of unique shops, restaurants, art galleries, live music, cafés, and the St. Louis Walk of Fame. The Tivoli Theater, the Pageant nightclub, and Blueberry Hill, a "landmark" restaurant and live music venue are some of the more notable locations.
  • #the_riverfront There's a big river by St. Louis. If you're on the riverfront, you're in this channel for RP. This may include the Arch grounds if the river is at the forefront of the RP.
  • #the_hill For RP in "The Hill" section of St. Louis, famous for great Italian cuisine and big Italian hearts.
  • #soulard_market For RP at Soulard Farmers Market, open Wednesday through Saturday year-round.
  • #highway_270 For RP on this deathtrap of a highway that wraps around St. Louis and suffers an identity crises right before crossing into Illinois.
  • #forest_park For RP in this jewel of a city park that contains The Muny outdoor ampitheater, the famous St. Louis Zoo, the Art Museum, the Planetarium and St. Louis Science Center, the Jewel Box, and more.

  • #the_hotel The Hotel St. Jude, a fine safe-haven for supernaturals without their own permanent lair. Rooms are equipped for the needs of all kinds. M. Hans Dekker, Proprietor
  • #the_hotel_restaurant A fine dining restaurant that caters to all kinds, supernatural or not. Managed by the impeccable Simon Reinholdt. Head chef is Alain Broussard. Hostess is Natalie and bartender is Jermaine.
  • #the_hotel_mr_hunters_office Front staffed by Miss Bennington who filters all requests to see Mr. Hunter, Voice of the Void.
  • #boire One of the most popular nightlife spots in town, this rave is owned by Lee and Amri. A full bar, exotic dancers, and loud music give patrons a reason to keep coming back. Expect a line at the door manned by a muscle-bound Petrov even during the week.
  • #boire_upper_floor Private rooms that overlook the dance floor circle the second floor of Boire in a U. They can be reserved for a little private conversation or a special occasion. Beware the black door with the gold handle.
  • #fire_reigns Art gallery owned and run by NPC Sarah Reaves. But is it really? Few PCs visit the place…
  • #deedees_place Dive bar in a run down strip mall. A single stage, a single pole, and shady Chex Mix.Now serving Guiness.
  • #hoax Combination vintage arcade, ice cream shop, and theater, among other things. Managed by Noor.

  • #mysties_shack Fortune teller business owned by a kind, lemonade loving southern belle named Mystie.

  • #the_locked_box Harvey's pawnshop. Neat and value-organized shelves and racks fill the place and the staff works behind a glass jewelry counter.

  • #hans_office Located in Hotel St. Jude. Hans spends the earlier portions of the evenings tending to hotel business, but can conduct meetings for both hotel and Governor's business here.
  • #lee_office_staff_boire_areas For RP at Boire, but behind the scenes in Lee’s office or the staff areas, the alley behind, the kitchen, etc.
