Personal Information

Born around the turn of the 19th century in Yorkshire, Michael worked in the steelmills. He became involved in radical politics, working for universal suffrage and better conditions for working men. In 1827, he was arrested and transported to Australia for being a member of a Friendly Society organising workers for higher wages. His rebellious nature saw him sent from New South Wales to Port Arthur, a supposedly inescapable prison for hardened criminals and disobedient convicts. Surrounded by shark infested waters, with the narrow isthmus to the Tasmanian mainland guarded by starved dogs, traps, and British marines, work was hard and punishments harder. Michael knew he had to escape, or slowly die. In September 1829, he swallowed a bent nail and regurgitated it that night, using it to pick his chains. After strangling a guard, stealing his uniform and weapons, and stabbing others he encountered who got close enough to recognise him as a convict, Michael made his way north and swam to the Tasmanian mainland. He never reached it alive. Poawita, or "Mother-Moon", an indigenous Gangrel, had been watching the prison colony. Impressed by Michael's escape and knowing she needed someone who understood the British for her people to have any chance of survival, she embraced Michael underwater, beneath the eclipsed moon. As a Gangrel, Michael made a great ally for Poawita. He hated the guards and the colony, and together with a blood bond this made him loyal to her cause. They did what they could during the genocide, and disrupted the Black Line somewhat but it was nowhere near enough. The tribe Poawita was protecting were all killed, or sold and died soon after of disease. With her people gone, Poawita commanded Michael to stake her in the open and leave her to the sun, and he was unable to disobey. He doesn't remember the next few decades well, but does remember working together with the remnants of Cash and Co after their leader was captured. He found his way to the mainland sometime in the '50s, and continued to live as a bushranger until the '70s, though he claims to have "come out of retirement" to work with the Kelly gang, and dubiously boasts that he gave Ned the idea for armour by claiming a metal plate rather than Kindred physiology allowed him to survive a gunshot. He became torpid in the 1880s, and awakened sometime towards the end of the first world war. Something changed in him, and he began to seek the company of others, both Kindred and Kine. After wandering around for a time, he ended up in Adelaide in early 1919. (more to come...)

Appearance

Michael doesn't look too good. When embraced, he was starving, scarred from the lash, and covered in filth. Grooming and the centuries have softened his appearance somewhat, but he always looks like something feral and mad. He has an arrow brand on the palm of his left hand, placed there to identify him as a convict. If he attacks someone for revenge or a sense of justice, he shows them the brand before popping claws.

Personality

Mortal World

Outside some old court documents, a ship's manifest, and a report of a prisoner going missing from Port Arthur and presumed dead, the world has forgotten Michael's mortal life. As a bushranger, he avoided attracting attention to himself, allowing others to act as gang leader and gain a reputation and scrutiny. A few people who knew him in WW2 are still alive, and may think he reminds them of a guerilla they fought with, but he didn't knowingly reveal his abilities to anyone who survived. Only the ghouls who fought with him know his nature. Pretending to be a naturalised immigrant from the UK, Michael has contacts in left wing politics and trade unions.
