Timeline

  • Born as August Steiner in Berlin 1920.
  • His German father was killed during a street brawl between rival political parties & his Russian born mother died of influenza.
  • After being arrested for a string of petty crimes he was forced to join the German army. He was assigned the role of quartermaster for his unit & in doing so began his rise as a prominent member of the black market trade soon after.
  • During his time in Paris he made huge profits selling whatever items to the French civilian population as well as German soldiers. Through lucky coincidence he won over the favour of many locals & removed a fellow soldier by the name of Woldemar who was in direct competition to him in underworld goods. It was a case of the right place at the right time for Steiner who was drinking with a few fellow soldiers when Woldemar stumbled in & was refused service. Woldemar became unruly very soon after as he began abusing the other patrons & staff, when told to leave he pulled his gun & fired blindly towards the barmaid behind the counter. In the panic as patrons & staff tried to escape Steiner leapt to his feet, drew his own gun & shot Woldemar in the head. When the authorities arrived Steiner was arrested until the proof came out that he had acted in defence of his fellow soldiers & the civilians. He served in Paris from 1941 until 1944.
  • As the tide of the war turned his role in the black market was exposed by another soldier named Traugott; right hand man & life long friend of Woldemar. German command believed his actions had armed & enabled French resistance fighters & that his actions were that of treasonous intent. Rather than facing trial he arranged for all his wealth to be hidden away safely & vanished overnight, making his way towards Russia.
  • 4 months later he is arrested by Russian troops, facing execution again he offers his captors his spoils & his services as a translator in return for his life.
  • At the wars end he had proven himself quite resourceful, he had bought the Russians loyalty by amassing a small fortune for the Russian officers. With the help of the same officers he obtained a new identification as a Russian soldier by the name Alexi Stukov.
  • Directly after the war under the recommendations of the officers he was transferred through to units responsible for the interrogation of captured Germans. During this period he had once again set himself up as a black market operator & made good his promise to the officers. He soon came into frequent dealings with a very well respected yet enigmatic Russian commander who exchanged business favours for each other.
