The rite of Recontre is invoked when both the parties agree to it. It is invoked over issues of dogma, position or lineage, or questions of heresy and principle.
The duel must take place in secret, to protect the Masquerade. Weapons may be used, and disciplines are expected. The loser is expected to meet Final Death.
Provided the parties agree, physical duel may be replaced by any sort of competition allowed under the Lancea Sanctum. The end result, with the winner triumphant and the lessor predator shamed, is the same.
