You know, death is senseless. It's inevitable, and absurd. We like to ascribe some great meaning to the ways people we love pass from this world, but there is no meaning. Death is meaningless. Death isn't the existential answer; death isn't a welcoming gate to something better; death isn't a skinny-arse Goth chick with some Manic Pixie Dream bullshit going on; death isn't a resolution. Death is meningococcal, stiking down a single child at a primary school, bereaving one family while all the others thank God it wasn't them, wasn't their baby. Death is a man living a good life, and heading home to his family one night after work when death jumps out of an alley and stabs him for $30 cash and a bus card. Death is taking the wrong drugs, at the wrong time, when you've always been safe before, and spasming out on a pavement while a friend screams for help.
Death is fucking ridiculous.
And some people, after they pass through that door, after they have their stupid, random, anticlimactic death, wake up on the other side and realise that death has been with them their entire life. Rocking their cradle. Pushing them in the swing. Taking them to prom. Clapping for them at graduation. Death was all around, and they never saw it waiting.

A remarkably attractive young woman, tall and statuesque with angular features and silvery-blonde hair. She dresses like a television paralegal, all pencil skirts, silk blouses and spike heels.

Personality

Gretchen's got all the Cosmopolitan magazines that tell her she should be an aggressive go-getter and a standout individual. So she distinguishes herself from the pack, because Cosmo tells her so.
This leads many to initially mistake her for a Ventrue, while her manicured good looks cause others to mistake her for a Toreador. However, the slightly neurotic, hyper-competitive edge reveals her Malkavian nature to the savvy quickly enough.

Mortal World

Brisbane at large doesn't know the name Gretchen Di Val, though they see a lot of her work. She's just another faceless, nameless Mayoral aide, working behind the scenes to prop up a man fronting an administration that, frankly, has more holes in it than a gangster, post Thompson-drilling. But she's the Mayor's favourite, and her name is becoming known in the halls of power as being a girl who gets things done.
The internet knows Lily White as the lingerie and fetish model with the seventeenth most popular cam-site on Google.
Her family doesn't know that both women are one in the same, but they do know her as a cock-up prone to making terrible decisions in both her professional and personal life.
A string of ex-boyfriends and a couple of disappointed college lesbians know her as a woman who draws spirograph patterns on the Crazy/Hot Scale.

Information Known by Kindred Society

Gretchen Di Val came to the attention of Kindred society in 2012, when surveillance on the Mayor of Brisbane turned up that he was cheating on his wife of fifteen years ("How clichéd," yawned the Toreador) with a certain attractive aide, young enough to be his daughter. Deducing that gaining control of the girl could afford them access to her boss, the Ventrue moved to make her a ghoul, only to find their maneuver blocked by the Malkavian Dr. Karl Montgomery, who revealed that Di Val was his niece and that if the Court wanted the use of her, then she was damn well going to be a full citizen rather than simply a tool to be discarded if the scheme palled.
Dr. Karl lobbied for the right to Embrace her, and was granted permission by Prince Iadro Orsini.
Since then, Gretchen Di Val has been under his private tutelage as his unreleased childe, and has yet to make her debut at Court.

Timeline

• 1986 - Born, to Penelope Mayne, and John Di Val, the second of three children. The couple finally marry after her birth.
• 2001 - Father, John, vanishes.
• 2003 - Graduates high school with a very high SAI. Is accepted into Queensland Uni to study political science and business administration.
• 2008 - Finishes Uni. Hired on as a secretary with the Mayor's office.
• 2010 - After a series of promotions, hard-won through intelligent networking and clever politics rather than any real professional distinction, becomes an aide to the Mayor himself. Not long after, she catches his eye, and soon becomes his mistress.
• 2013 - Embraced.
