Guidelines to allies influence levels with descriptions for use in Sydney venues and in the Brisbane Awakening game. This may also be useful for other domains and genres.

Bureaucracy

The non-secular world; organised religion of all faiths.

  1. Identify most secular members, pass as a member of the clergy, peruse general church records (baptism/marriage/burial/etc)
  2. Identify higher church members, track regular church members, suspend lay members
  3. Open/close a single church, find average church hunter, dip into collection plate ($500), access private information and archives of a church
  4. Discredit/suspend high level church members, manipulate regional branches of a church
  5. Organise major protests, access ancient church lore/knowledge

Finance

All things monetary; banks, investment firms, brokers.

  1. Learn about major transaction/financial events, raise capital ($2,000), learn general economic trends, learn real motivations of transaction
  2. Trace an unsecured small account, raise capital to purchase a small business, raise capital ($4,000)
  3. Purchase a large business, raise capital ($8,000)
  4. Manipulate local banking (delay deposits, alter credit rating), ruin a small business, raise capital ($16,000)
  5. Control an aspect of city wide banking (shut off atms', arrange bank holiday), ruin a large business, purchase a major company, raise capital ($32,000)

Health

Hospitals, blood banks, doctors, pharmacies, morgues.

  1. Access a persons health records, fake vaccination records and the like, use public functions of health centres at your leisure, get a blood trait
  2. Access some medical research records, have minor lab work done, get a copy of a coroners report, instigate minor quarantines
  3. Corrupt results of tests or inspections, alter medical records
  4. Acquire a body, completely rewrite medical records, abuse grants ($500), have minor medical research performed on a subject, institute large scale quarantines, shut down business on health code violations
  5. Have special research performed, have people institutionalised or released

High Society

Culture and subculture, fame, fashion, trendsetting.

  1. Learn what is trendy, obtain hard to get show tickets, learn about concerts/shows/plays before they're made public
  2. Track most celebrities/luminaries, be a local voice in the entertainment field, borrow cash from rich friends ($2000)
  3. Crush promising careers, hobnob well above your station
  4. Minor celebrity status
  5. Get a brief appearance on TV, ruin a new club/gallery/festival/etc

Industry

The business of making things; manufactures, factories, unions, trades.

  1. Learn about industrial projects/movements
  2. Have minor projects performed, dip into union funds or embezzle cash ($500), arrange small accidents or sabotage
  3. Organise minor strikes, appropriate machinery for a short time
  4. Close down or revitalise a small plant
  5. Manipulate large local industry

Legal

Judges, lawyers, law firms, courtrooms.

  1. Get free representation for minor cases
  2. Avoid bail for some charges, have minor charges dropped
  3. Manipulate legal procedures (wills/contracts/court dates), access public/court funds ($500), get representation in most major cases
  4. Issue subpoenas, tie up court cases, have most charges dropped, cancel/arrange parole
  5. Close down all but the most serious investigations, have deportation proceedings held against someone

Media

Local sources of news and advertising; newspapers, television, radio, magazines, internet.

  1. Learn about breaking stories early, submit small articles
  2. Suppress (but not stop) small articles/reports, get hold of investigative reporting information
  3. Initiate news investigations/reports, get project funding and waste it ($500)
  4. Ground stories/projects
  5. Broadcast fake stories (local only), kill small articles/reports completely

Occult

Secret and fringe groups (cults), libraries, experts and shops specialising in the paranormal.

  1. Contact and make use of common occult groups/practices, know some of the more visible occult figures
  2. Know some of the more obscure occult figures, access resources for most rituals/rites
  3. Access vital/rare components, milk impressionable for cash ($500), access occult tomes and writings, research a basic ritual from your sect
  4. Gain access to a medium sized cult following, can confirm the existence of other supernaturals, research a intermediate ritual from your sect
  5. Know general vicinity of certain supernaturals and possibly contact them, research an advanced ritual from your sect, access minor magic items

Police

Law enforcement personnel, gaols, prisons, and police stations.

  1. Learn police procedures, hear police information/rumours, avoid traffic tickets
  2. Have license plates checked, avoid minor violations, get "inside information"
  3. Get copies of investigation reports, have police hassle/detain/harass someone, find bureau secrets
  4. Access confiscated weapons/contraband, have some serious charges dropped, start an investigation, get money from evidence room or as appropriation ($500)
  5. Institute major investigations, arrange set-ups, instigate bureau investigations, have officers fired

Political

Elected officials, politicians, mayors, city council, state offices, legislation.

  1. Minor lobbying, identify real platforms of politicians/parties, be in the known
  2. Meet small-time politicians, garner inside information on processes/laws/etc, use slush fund/fund raiser ($500)
  3. Sway or alter political projects (local parks/construction/etc)
  4. Enact minor legislation, dash careers of minor politicians
  5. Get your candidate a minor office, enact encompassing legislation

Street

Homeless people, street gangs, un-organised crime.

  1. Open an ear for the word on the street, identify most gangs and their turf/habits
  2. Live mostly without fear of the underside of society, keep a contact in most aspects of street life, access small time contraband
  3. Get insight into other area's of influence, arrange some services off street people/gangs, get pistols/uncommon melee weapons
  4. Mobilise groups of homeless, pan-handle ($500), get hold of a rifle/smg/shotgun, have a word in almost all aspects of gang operations,
  5. Control a single medium sized gang, arrange protests by street people

Transport

By land, lake, or air; cabs, buses, hire-cars, free-ways, tolls, trains, shipping, airports.

  1. Know what goes where/when/why, travel locally quickly and freely
  2. Track an unwary target if he uses public transport, arrange safe passage (or concealed) from mundane threats
  3. Seriously hamper an individuals ability to travel, avoid most supernatural dangers when travelling
  4. Shut down one form of transportation temporarily, route money your way ($1000)
  5. Reroute major modes of travel, smuggle with impunity

Underworld

Organised crime; prostitution, arms, gambling, fraud, extortion, auto theft.

  1. Locate minor contraband
  2. Obtain pistols/serious drugs/stolen cars, hire muscle to rough someone up, fence stolen loot, prove that crime pays ($2000)
  3. Obtain rifle/shotgun/smg, arrange a minor hit, meet someone in the family
  4. Make white collar crime connections
  5. Arrange gangland assassinations, hire demolition man/firebug, supply local drug needs

University

Higher education, schools, universities, research, professors, lecturers, students.

  1. Know layout/policy of local schools, access low level university resources, get up-to high school records
  2. Know a contact or two with useful knowledge/abilities, have minor access to facilities, fake high school records, obtain college records
  3. Call in faculty favours, cancel a class, fix grades, discredit a student
  4. Organise student protests/rallies, discredit faculty members
  5. Falsify an undergraduate degree
