Eliza Jane Montague was born on 13 September 1929 to William and Vera Knight in Vienna, Austria, with one younger sister, Mary Knight. Eliza’s father was born into a family fortune from generations ago and, as a result, never sought work. In 1951, Eliza married James Montague and established a residence in Graz, Austria.

In 1954, at the age of 25, Eliza Montague became paralyzed from the neck down following a horse-riding accident. As a result, Eliza is wheel chair bound and requires a respirator to assist with breathing. Eliza and James’ marriage began crumbling due to grief and guilt, and they inevitably ended up resenting each other.

After the discovery of James Montague’s affair in 1955, Eliza planned and executed the murder of her husband. By poisoning his drink with arsenic, Eliza successfully pinned the murder on James’ jealous mistress. Consequently, Eliza Montague inherited James’ substantial wealth.

Despite Eliza avoiding the blame for her husband’s death, rumours caught the attention of Carrighann du Pleis, a wellborn Ventrue. After embracing and training Eliza for five years, Carrighann du Pleis released Eliza Montague into Kindred society in 1961.

In order to maintain her standing in society, Eliza Montague routinely possess a ghoul to complete her daily actions.
