'Status and Boons are the Chains that Bind the Beast'
Guild members wear a small loop of golden chain to signify their office

Overview

An Invictus guild of Harpies. The guild trains neonates in the proper use of status and boons. Most Invictus who are hoping to hold a court harpy position have graduated from this guild.

The guild teaches the doctrine that since all Kindred are at risk of falling to the beast, the rules of Kindred society must serve to bind the beast into acceptable behaviour. The role of the harpy is to ensure that status and boons are honoured so that these chains are not broken and the Kindred do not descend into chaos.

Structure

The guild has four levels:

  • Apprentice: Those who are in training, usually to a master, and have not yet passed their exams
  • Journeyman: Those who have graduated from basic training and passed the basic exam. They are considered qualified to act as harpies
  • Meister: Those who have served at least three months in a harpy position and have passed the advanced exam. Meisters are permitted to train apprentices.
  • Grand Meister: The head of the guild, as agreed by the Meisters. The Grand Meister adminsters the exams.

Invictus
The guild is an Invictus guild, but it has been known in the past to train those of other covenants in the proper use of boons and status. Only Invictus have ever become Masters of the Guild.

Joining the guild

Neonates wishing to become apprentices of the guild must request training by a Meister. In theory any who ask "with sufficient respect and politeness" may be trained. In reality this is the first test. The Meisters reason that if a neonate does not show even enough respect for boons to offer at least a minor boon in exchange for the Meister's time, then the neonate is not yet ready for training.

The Exams

The Grand Meister administers the exams. Generally an apprentice will be given a list of around 20 basic questions which the Guild feels all Journeymen should know intimately without having to look these facts up. The Grand Meister chooses five of those 20 questions to ask the apprentice for the exam. The apprentice must answer all five questions accurately, mistakes are looked upon poorly.

A similar process is used for the advanced Meister exam.
