The House of Janus busies itself with setting up returned Changelings with new lives. A mix of psychologists, social workers, employment and real estate agents.

Current members of the motley include:

Janus is the Roman god of beginnings and transitions. He has two faces, one looking to the future, one into the past. He is the god of doorways and portals, of entering and leaving. He was invoked at the beginning at of any new venture. January is named for him as befits the beginning of the year.

He was also a god of war, specifically the god of the transition from peace to war and back again. The doors to his temple were opened in times of war and closed in times of peace.

It should be noted that while it sounds like "Janissary" should be derived from Janus, it is not. It comes from 'new soldier' in Ottoman Turkish. But we are happy to be called Janissaries. "Janitor" - meaning a keeper of doorways - is derived from Janus, but we are not so happy to be called Janitors.

The Janian Oath

The House of Janus renews its motley oath every year at first light on New Year's Day.

"As the new year dawns I enter into this sacrement. With open hands and heart I take you as my sisters, as my brothers. Though we may vex each other, I will not suffer another to stand between us, nor break faith with you. I am your succour, as you are mine, until the year dawns anew."
