Nihils

A gateway to the Tempest, a hole in the island in the Sea of Storms or, in some cases, an express lift to the Labyrinth, Nihils are all of these things and more. Some Nihils are permanent, in locations of great emotion. Auschwitz, the Killing Fields of Cambodia, plague pits in many European Necropoli have inky-black holes with grasping vortices that lead straight down into the Eternal Storm. Some Nihils appear sporadically, like a storm in the Skinlands. Lasting for a short while and then dissipating. Other Nihils appear to be made by Spectres as a prelude to an attack; the creatures of Oblivion boiling up from the storm to wreak havoc.

The last Nihil, the one that leads directly to the Labyrinth, is the one the Shadow opens when it drags a Psyche into a Harrowing. The Nihil opens at the feet of the wraith and they are sucked in, the opening slamming shut behind them like a cell door.
