1829

  • Perth is founded. On 2 May Charles Fremantle claims the whole of Australia outside New South Wales for Britain. Perth is founded on 12 August.
  • Ensign Robert Dale leads the first exploration to the east of the. Darling Scarp. (October).
  • First European child born in the new colony (Joseph Mitchell).

1844

  • The Cabal “The Architects” (Mainly Silver Ladder) moves to Perth from England, bringing with them the Proximi Family Arlington.

1845

  • Supreme Court Gardens are laid out.
  • A.C. & F.T. Gregory's expedition.

1846

  • Andrew Clarke takes over as Governor.
  • Coal is discovered.
  • New Norcia Mission founded.

1847

  • Governor Clarke dies.

  • Charles Fitzgerald takes over as Governor.

  • Transportation of convicts approved.
  • Seer Pylon ‘The Way’ moves to the Town of Kelmscott, coming from Italy.

1850

  • The population of the colony of Western Australia had increased to 5,886, while the population around Perth was still only about 1400. Perth continued to be seen as the administrative centre for the whole colony.
  • Though the Swan River Colony was founded as a "free settlement", the initial settlers had many difficulties which compelled them to seek help from the British, in an offer to accept convicts. The first convicts arrive in 1850. Between then and 1868, over 9000 convicts were transported to Western Australia on 43 convict ship voyages.

1851

  • The Swan River Mechanics' Institute was established in 1851, on the corner of Pier and Hay Streets. It was the colony's first cultural centre, housing an extensive library, as well as natural history collections including botanical, zoological and mineral specimens.

1852

  • Direct mail service operates from Albany to Britain.

1854

  • Population of Perth is 4001.
  • Robert Austin’s expedition seen as a failure but he is the first to report likely gold in the Murchison. He is ignored by history.
  • First postage stamps are introduced. Going against tradition W.A. issued stamps bearing the image of a black swan and not the reigning monarch.

1855

  • A.E. Kennedy appointed Governor.
  • A.C. Gregory's expedition to Victoria River.

1856

  • Perth is made a city by Queen Victoria. (Sep 23). It also gains gas lighting. Mathew Hale becomes the first Bishop of Perth. (One source says 1857).

1857

  • F.T. Gregory's expedition to Murchison and Gascoyne.

1858

  • A secondary school for boys was built by convicts in Hay Street. Originally called 'Perth Church of England Collegiate School', the building still stands today and is now known as The Cloisters.
  • A.C. Gregory's second expedition.

1859

  • The foundation stone was laid for a new official residence for the Governor of Western Australia, between St Georges Terrace and the Swan River.
  • Population of Perth is 6293

1861

  • F.T. Gregory's expedition to Nichol Bay.

1862

  • John Stephen Hampton appointed Governor.

1863

  • At Governor House, Governor John Hampton took up residence in 1863, before completion of the building in 1864. Government House, as it stands today, was completed in the 1890s with the addition of a ballroom

1864

  • (through 1866) Charles Cooke Hunt opens up a trail to the goldfields and sinks wells but does not find gold
  • With several Solitaires in the City, as well as the powerhouse of The Architects, the decision to set up a Consillium is made, founding of the Consilium of the Golden Swan.

  • John Forrest leads an expedition from Perth to the Leonora area.
  • John Forrest leads the first expedition to cross Australia from west to east. (Mar 30-Aug 27.)

1870

  • A Town Hall is built.
  • Representative Government established.
  • New constitution adopted.

  • First private railway in the state running on wooden rails.
  • Western Australian Timber Co. Alexander Forrest leads an expedition from Perth to the goldfields and Esperance.
  • Elementary Education Act passed. Compulsory education for all children aged between 6 and 14 years old.
  • Districts Road Act is passed and 18 Road Boards are established. (3 more added by the end of the year).

1872

  • A park is laid out, and is named Kings Park later that year.
  • Longbow dies under unusual circumstances, with no killer found. A new Sentinel is appointed

  • Catalpa rescue. Irish prisoners escape.

1877

  • The telegraph line from Adelaide to Perth was completed in 1877, considerably improving intercontinental communication.
  • Governor Ord appointed.
  • Aboriginal Protection Board established.

1879

  • First Government railway in the state constructed from Geraldton to Northampton.
  • Alexander Forrest leads and expedition to the Kimberley.
  • First edition of the West Australian newspaper.
  • Secret ballot introduced for the election of Legislative Council.

1880

  • The foundation stone for the Perth Railway Station was laid.
  • Governor Robinson is appointed, for the second time.
  • George Shenton becomes the first Mayor of Perth.

1881

  • The first suburban railway line opened, running from Fremantle through Perth and on to Guildford.
  • Population of Perth is 9,955

1882

  • The age of consent for girls is raised from 10 to 14 years of age.

1883

  • Frederick Napier Broome appointed Governor.

1884

  • The first workers union in the state is formed, establishing the Fremantle Society of Carpenters and Joiners.

1885

  • The first weekly newspaper, the Western Mail, commenced publishing.
  • The first payable gold is discovered at Halls Creek.

1886

  • Kimberley goldfield proclaimed.

1887

  • First telephone service introduced in Perth and Fremantle.

1888

  • St George's Cathedral is built.
  • Aborigines are denied the right to hold a miner's license.
  • Yilgarn and Pilbara Goldfields are proclaimed.
  • Perth Gaol and its gallows ceased operation, with its prisoners being transferred to Fremantle Prison. The prison, built by convict labour in the 1850s, was transferred to the colonial government in 1886 for use as a gaol for locally sentenced prisoners.

1890

  • Constitution proclaimed (October 21)

  • First shipment of cattle from the Kimberley arrives at Fremantle in June.

  • There is a gold rush in Coolgardie, Western Australia and the population of Perth booms.
  • Married women gain the right to own property in their own right.
  • Construction of Fremantle harbour begins.
  • Copper found at Ravensthorpe.
  • Romulus’ killer is finally tracked down and identified as a Seer of the Throne.
  • The Consillium wages war against the uncovered Seer Pylon, with The Architects and The Blades of the Dragon taking the brunt of the hostilities. The Pylon The Way is driven out of Kelmscott by two cabals, fleeing to Coolgardie. The pylon’s library and abandoned equipment is divided between the cabals with 70% to The Architects and 30% to the Blades of the Dragon. The Blades take possession of the abandoned land, to establish training grounds for the Adamantine Arrows.

  • Electricity generation was made available to the city of Perth
  • A railway line from Perth to Armadale opened on 2 May.
  • John Forrest introduces the Homestead Act.
  • Paddy Hannan finds gold at Kalgoorlie.

1894

  • Edith Cowan helped to found the Karrakatta Club, based on contemporary models of education clubs in the USA. The club became involved in the campaign for women's suffrage.
  • Agricultural Bank is established.
  • All major mining centres are connected to Perth by telegraph.
  • Midland railway opens.
  • Menzies Goldfield proclaimed.

1895

  • School attendance becomes compulsory.
  • Government purchases Great Southern Railway.

1896

  • The first piped water service in Perth starts operation.

1897

  • Palace Hotel built.
  • S.S. Sultan becomes the first steamer to use the new Fremantle harbour. (May)

1898

  • Perth Zoo opens.
  • First self-propelled motor car imported.
  • Coal discovered at Collie.
  • The Land Act divides the state into six divisions, Kimberley, North West (now Pilbara), Eastern (now Wheat belt and Goldfields), South West, Western (now Mid-West and Metro) and Eucla (now Great Southern).

1899

  • Queens Gardens are laid out.
  • Perth Mint is established.
  • Electric trams begin running in the streets of Perth.
  • The right for women to vote and run for office.
  • Legislative Council becomes an elected instead of an appointed body.
  • Free education in Government schools for 6-14 year olds.
  • First electric tram operates in Perth (Hay St.).
  • Perth Mint opens (June 21.).
  • First contingent of troops leave W.A. for the Boer War. Nov. 7. 69 officers and 1168 other ranks eventually serve there.

  • Electoral terms set at three years and members are paid a salary.
  • Donald Mackay cycles round Australia.
  • Referendum on federation.
  • The age of consent for girls is raised from 14 to 16 years of age.

1901

  • Western Australia becomes part of the Commonwealth of Australia. (January 1st.)
  • Lt. F. W. Bell becomes the first West Australian to be awarded a Victoria Cross (Boer War).
  • First federal elections (Mar 29.)
  • F.S. Brockman leads an expedition from King Sound.
  • Population of Perth is 27,553

1902

  • Claremont Teachers College, in the suburb of Claremont, became the first post-secondary educational institute in Western Australia.
  • Minimum wage is established by legislation.

1903

  • A pipeline from Mundaring Weir to Kalgoorlie opened. This was a major achievement for its time by the state's first Engineer-in-Chief C. Y. O'Connor, who committed suicide before the project was complete.

1905

  • First tram operates in Fremantle.
  • With fear and suspicion gripping the Consillium, the Path Council turns to the Guardian Cabal The Hand that Binds to deliver them from the Seer Threat, while the Silver Ladder focuses its attention to the growing infrastructure of the city.

  • First sewage system comes into use in Perth.

  • A fire caused damage to the William Standover & Co. building in Hay Street.
  • Plural voting abolished.

1908

  • With the sudden disappearance and withdrawal of the Seer pylon, the Consillium requests that the Hierarch, Ghost, and his officers relinquish control over the city back to the Silver Ladder. They refuse for two years.

1909

  • Compulsory national service instituted.

1910

  • After long negotiations with the Silver Ladder, Ghost steps down. His actions are questioned by the Adamantine Arrow. Accusations are made of deals and golden handshakes, ending in a duel between Notice and Pyre (Second Talon Moros Adamantine Arrow). Notice, a considerably more talented mage, wins this Duel. His terms dictate that Pyre must be exiled from Perth for 8 years and a day.
  • With ten years of relative peace, the Consillium focus turns in upon itself. During this time, the Arlington family seems to be fighting amongst itself.

1920

  • First trans-continental flight. Melbourne to Perth. DH4 piloted by F.S. Briggs (Landed in Perth December 2.)
  • Pyre returns to the Perth Consilium after his time in exile. His return brings news of a creature of water coming from the northern half of the country. With a real threat present, the bickering and petty politics stops.
  • The Consilium does battle with this creature, designated “Pontus” after the pre Olympian god of the sea. The Consillium, due to Pyre’s early warning, is able to contain the creature, with the battle resulting in Western Australia's highest rainfall for 70 years. Unable to destroy the creature, the creature is then taken and bound by the Mysterium and Guardians of the Veil and locked in a secret vault that requires both Orders to open. Pyre and Notice mend their argument and become the closest of friends.

1921

  • Edith Dicksey Cowan becomes the first female Member of Parliament.
  • Group settlement scheme begins.
  • First airmail service established (December). Population of Perth 170,213

1922

  • Western Australian Airways becomes the first to commence regular commercial flights. (Later to become MacRobertson Miller Aviation in 1934.)

  • Notice and Page (Silver Ladder – Acanthus – Fate Weavers) become lovers and are secretly married. Pyre is present at the wedding as is Remus (I).

  • There was major flooding of the Swan River. This caused the Fremantle Railway Bridge to collapse just after a train had passed over it.
  • Muresk Agricultural College in Northam starts to function.
  • Notice is brutally killed and his corpse is left on the steps of a chapel. Pyre swears to find the killer by all means possible, making a public Oath.

1927

  • The first Federal Parliament is held in Canberra.
  • Aborigines banned from entering the centre of Perth.

1928

  • Woolworths Pty. Ltd. opens the first of its Perth based stores.

1929

  • Perth commemorated 100 years of British settlement.
  • J.T. Franklin becomes the first Lord Mayor of Perth.
  • Aero Club of Australia (W.A. Branch) later Royal Aero Club is incorporated.
  • Interstate air services begin.
  • Fremantle becomes a city. (June 3rd).
  • New York stock exchange crash triggers the great depression. (Oct. 24.).
  • 'Talkies' or movies with sound are seen in Perth for the first time.

1930

  • Telephone services put Perth in connection with Adelaide, and subsequently with eastern Australia.

1932

  • The University of Western Australia campus was moved from Perth to its present-day site in Crawley.
  • State lottery introduced.

1933

  • Western Australia produces a referendum for secession from England but it is rejected by Parliament.
  • Sir James Mitchell becomes the first locally born state Governor. (Technically he was Lt. Governor to begin with.)
  • Population of Perth is 230,340

1934

  • Goldfields riots.

  • Flying Doctor service starts in W.A

  • The Silver Ladder forces a vote of no confidence in Raven. Evidence of her involvement in a raid by Raven and Crow on a Mysterium library is presented. Raven is replaced by Valkyrie, failing to achieve the result that the Ladder intended.

  • At the time, it was the largest precast prestressed concrete bridge in the world.

  • Perth becomes known worldwide as the "City of Light", as city residents lit their house lights and streetlights to celebrate American astronaut John Glenn on his orbit around the earth on Friendship 7.
  • The seventh British Empire and Commonwealth Games are hosted by Perth.
  • The Bendix G15 becomes the first functional computer to be installed in W.A. It was second hand and cost 21,000 pounds. It had just 7kb of memory.
  • First direct jet flights to London begin.

  • The last of Perth's trolleybuses were retired from service, making it the demise of Australia's first and only trolleybus fleet.

  • Aboriginal heritage Act finally gives legal protection to Aboriginal sacred sites.

1973

  • Perth Concert Hall opens.

1974

  • Murdoch University, Perth's second university, was opened with an inauguration ceremony. Lectures commenced on 24 February 1975 with an enrolment of 510 students.

1975

  • First colour television broadcast.

1976

  • The AMP Building is erected.
  • Population of Perth is 805,747.

1976 - First War of the Colossi

  • When Selmac, Colossus of Rock and Red Sand, begins to search for the water colossus designated Pontus by the Consillium, the sand titan assembled itself in full form and began to travel across the desert at a slow pace, hidden from the sleepers’ eyes. Selmac goes in search of Pontus as he is meant to fulfil his water duties, but his absence is felt.
  • The Awakened attack the Red Earth Colossus without true understanding of its power and ability, leading to the death of a number of Awakened mages. Under pain of a great ritual, they are able to bind it to the desert location. However, the howls of Selmac call others of his kind to the area.
  • The mages to discover that there are more of these “Colossi”; astral spirits made manifest into the real world from the time before the Fall, beginning the War of Colossi.
  • The Awakened attempt to capture the Colossi to use them to power spells, bind into powerful guardians for the sanctums and dissect them for powerful reagents for spells. As a result, several of the weaker, smaller colossi to band together, seeking out Awakened and removing them.
  • The conflict leads into many moral arguments between the Awakened over whether it is ethical to bind these creatures and use them for power.
  • The Awakened choose to attack the colossi, rather than divert them or parley with them. This leads to a violent divide among the Awakened, culminating with the Silver ladder Remus (II) duelling publicly with the Hierarch Karl Marbos in a Duel Thanatos. The duel concludes with Karl Marbos’ death; however, he severely scars and wounds Remus (II) in the process.
  • Suffering from having his right arm melded into his skin and chest and leaving him without it use, Remus (II) is crippled for life. He receives the nickname the “Key Killer”.
  • With the Consillium leaderless. The Key Killer begins to coordinate the conflict against the Colossi, leading from the front despite his deformity. Hi actions save many lives and earn the respect of the Adamantine Arrows, Guardians, the Mysterium and even a few members of the Free Council.
  • As the main conflict is draws to a close, Remus “The Key Killer” (II) Arlington is made Hierarch, a revered hero of the Colossi War.

1978

  • Governor Stirling Tower is built

1979

  • The WAY '79 celebrations commemorated Perth's sesquicentennial (i.e. 150 years) of European settlement. The city hosted the Miss Universe competition as part of the celebrations.
  • The Fremantle railway line closed due to lack of passengers.
  • Cadoux earthquake (June 2nd)

1981

  • Asian immigration increases.
  • Population of Perth is 898,918

1982

  • The twelfth Commonwealth Games are hosted in Brisbane.
  • After years of sending people into battle, the Key Killer becomes cruel and his hubris grows. His actions and reign as Hierarch lasted for five years, these five years are some of the darkest in the consilium's history.
  • The Key Killer Hierarch directs the Guardians of the Veil & Adamantine Arrow to then destroy all colossi that were captured by various cabals and orders. This sparks outrage from the Mysterium & Free Council. Several Colossus escaped execution by the Key Killer’s regime and some of them are still in the possession of cabals and orders.

1983

  • The Fremantle railway line is reopened after a change of government in 1983.
  • On 26 September 1983, Australia II won the America's Cup Yacht Race, the first time a challenger had won it in 132 years. Although this event was held off Newport, Rhode Island, it was a significant day in Perth's history. The Australia II challenge was financed by Perth businessman Alan Bond on behalf of the Royal Perth Yacht Club. Perth had four years to prepare for the defence, and in those years Fremantle especially underwent considerable economic and cultural development.

1984
