He identifies as gender fluid and will, depending on the day, say that Sam is short for either Samuel or Samantha. As a general rule of thumb, he is Samuel if wearing pants, Samantha if wearing a dress or skirt.

History

note Since English doesn't have a gender neutral, personal pronoun, and since Sam was assigned male at birth, I'll be using male pronoun, even though these are not really appropriate for him.

Sam White was born in North Sydney in 1994. His father was a lawyer and his mother a teacher. Sam is the fifth of six children, but is closest to his younger sister, Melanie.

All four of Sam's grandparents were dead by the time he was born. His maternal grandparents were English and had migrated to Australia after World War II. His paternal grandparents were of German descent. Both of Sam's grandmothers were Child of Gaia Ragabashs and both reached the rank of Elder. All four of Sam's grandparents had at least one female Child of Gaia Elder among their recent ancestors. Sam is the birth werewolf in his family for at least five generations to be male assigned at birth.

Both of Sam's parents were active in a variety of left wing political causes. Sam attended his first political rally (against war in Iraq) when he was eight, attended his first political meeting (to help organise a rally against deforestation) when he was fourteen and joined the Greens when he was sixteen.

Originally, Sam's full legal name was Samuel Christopher White, however, from an early age, Sam felt that he didn't properly fit into a single, traditional gender category. On his eighteenth birthday, Sam legally applied to have his name changed to Sam Chris White and, if asked what it's short for, will explain that, depending on how he feels on a given day, Sam might stand for Samuel, for Samantha or it might not be short for anything.

Starting on his sixteenth birthday, Sam began, to have dreams of himself as a female wolf. In the six months leading up to his twentieth birthday, these dreams became more and more frequent. Two days before his twentieth birthday, he underwent his first change. He was, fortunately, alone on a nature hike at the time and no humans were hurt, although he did kill two rabbits and a kangaroo.

Sam was soon found by local werewolves and taught about Werewolf society. He quickly accepted his place in the Children of Gaia. He has developed a strong, religious faith in Gaia and Luna. On the first of March, 2014 he was put through his rite of passage becoming a Cliath and full member of Werewolf society. Upon completing his rite of passage, he was given the deed name “Speaks for Justice”

Soon after going through his rite of passage, Sam moved to Canberra and enrolled as a student at the Austrlaian National University. His younger sister, Melanie, came with him.
