Personal Information

An old creature who has been in and out of the Freeholds and Arcadia. Spending most of its time in the bush surrounding Greater Sydney and the Hedge, it rarely makes an appearance in the city. The untouched that travel too close to, or find themselves in, the hedge are hunted by this creature, its purpose on a whole to return them to the world in a way that has them not wanting to return. Some who are escaping Arcadia cross its path and are lead to the realm, at times leading to its own capture.

Chase, as it refers to itself, is literate and keeps in communications with the Freeholds and Lost community. Letters dating back to the mid 1900's are on record, but some refer to times before then, raising questions to the age of the creature. It seems that its reasons to visit the community are to verify its existence, confirm its alliance with the Freehold, return Lost, or report those taken. While referring to spending more time in Arcadia than the realm it has never made clear its feelings on the place or the Keepers, only saying that it is a place that others should not be exposed to - "better me than them".

Appearance

Mask: A rough man who looks like he has just woken up from a bed of dirt, leaves and twigs. Visible scarring, burns and wounds of someone who has lead a hard life. He does not small poorly as he bathes and washes his clothing often, but it is clear he frequents charity stores.

Mien: A chimera form with a tatted mess of parts, predominately elongated canine features with matted black and white feathers. Its head has the shape of a slender wolf, with reptilian eyes and snout with a beak. Small leathery or fury spines protrude from all surfaces of its body, making it very undesirable to touch.

Personality

Patient, it can stand still for hours, observing his targets and waiting for the right time. It is quiet but confident in its speech and clearly not used to lengthy discussions. When on the hunt it is swift and focused, ready to unleash a bark of warnings and orders to those that should flee to a safer area. Its bark is definitely worse than its bite, as it rarely wants to hurt others, just wants to get his point across.

Mortal World

It has been called the yowie, bunyip and a monster, when exposing its form to mortals on the rare occasions that is needed. The vagrant lifestyle, from what mortals can tell, has made it largely undetected by society at large. It deals predominately with charity stores, take-away operators, petrol stations open late hours, and small local convince stores. When questioned, it answers simply while trying to be polite, keeping its story the same for all. Money is scavenged, but when available will work off the books in manual labour. In recent times he has been making more contact with bush-walkers in the Blue Mountains, showing them around and telling them stories, some propagating his own story.

Timeline

• 1931 - Born in The Rocks, Sydney to Thomas and Rebecca, Thomas duying soon after in a construction accident.
• 1946 - Taken from the world on the newly named Australia Day, started his first stint in The Warren (15).
• 1958 - Joined a group who were escaping, only two made it to the Hedge (19).
• 1959 - Started working in a butchery with fellow escapee John (20).
• 1965 - Taken from the Hedge after getting lost, carried out his second stint in The Warren (26).
• 1980 - Escaped to the world and living in Hornsby (31).
• 1986 - Taken from the Hedge while in defence of escapees, carried out his third stint in The Warren (37).
• 1998 - Escaped to the world and living in Heathcote (41).
• 2003 - Taken from the Hedge while tracking a hedge beast, carried out his fourth stint in The Warren (46).
• 2009 - Escaped to the world and living in the Blue Mountians (48).
• 2012 - Starts to spend some of his days guiding visitors around the mountains (51).
• 2013 - Starts the process to register himself as a guide, but needs assistance (52).

Arcadia

It has been in Archadia on four occasions, each time trapped within The Warren - a maze of tunnels and passage way within an immense hill. For the large part the creatures within live out their lives, focusing on survival of the fittest whenever collectives cross paths. It seems whenever like creatures bond too much, and large collectives are formed, they are put into situations - challenges - where only some survive. Few learn that the time of challenges are the prime time to escape The Warren, when the hidden captors are the most stressed and unable to monitor all that is occurring. Those within The Warren age slower than they would in the mortal world, or perhaps time is quicker, in either case those that escape are usually exposed to a world that takes some getting used to, before they are re-captured.

Escape

Its first escape from Arcadia was much like those that followed, where he grew from being a follower to a leader. When a group within The Warren grew too large the hidden captors would set up challenges that would see their numbers diminished. It was during this time that Chase and others would find other tunnels and soon natural light. Creatures much larger than them would give chase and it was only a matter of chance an individual would escape. During several failed attempts to escape, Chase hid while others fled, and chased down one of the creatures following them, damming himself to further captivity but allowing others to be free - it was this act that gave it its name.
