The House of Long Shadows

Overview

“There's a charming allure to running away and joining the circus and everyone loves a carnival. The midways at night, though, turn into a maze of concealed ropes at ankle height, the carnies and roustabouts become territorial and the freaks take on menacing tones. Beyond the Hedge, this is amplified and turned into a realm of an endless midway, the booths and stalls manned perpetually as the show never stops playing. Performers drop from exhaustion, routines turn into torturous ordeals, food becomes a noxious poison necessary to cling to life but only barely. Walking down the fairgrounds and through the midway can take a lifetime or more and being stuck with a new job is a fresh Hell waiting for everyone. The Keeper of the circus, was a cruel taskmaster and demanding instructor, finding fault with every performance and every person's appearance: those who routinely failed inspections took their turn in the freak tent, weeping with the others of their ilk and watching as visiting Gentry sometimes took home a prize or toy: everyone's a winner if they visit, and everyone who stays is a loser. Nobody was immune to the treatment with some receiving harsher sentences: the animals. There were no animals of a semi-normal nature in the big top, only the contorted remains of what was a person, fused into a new, horrific shape and left to wander around in a daze, tended to by the few merciful "employees". Mercy kills were rare as every person had value as an employee, even the failures. The nomadic carnival/circus wandered the lands and paid its toll in the form of its employees who pleased assorted Gentry hosts, as The House of Long Shadows was never one for stability or order.

Captives

Those captured and held are all expect to work and hard. the Ringmaster of the House of Long Shadows is merciless and will punish those who do not pull their weight. They do not discriminate and will take on any and all Changelings, all Seemings and Kiths can be used as various attractions and oddities. there are however 5 Star attractions that would be sorely missed.
