Timeline

On March 11th 1615, Roman and Maya Navishenko brought their second son Pietro into the world. Pietro, his parents and his three year old brother Zakhar lived in a rundown shack in the slums of Moscow. Life was tough living in poverty, as much as Roman and Maya tried their best to put food on the table. When Pietro was five, Zakhar came down with a terrible sickness that quickly claimed his life. Pietro didn’t understand the grief that overwhelmed his family, so he started venturing outside more often and met some of the neighbourhood children. It wasn’t long before he befriended Slavik, a boy from the next suburb over, and pretty little Tasha from down the street. The three would run around the streets with sticks pretending they were solders in the war. Pietro would always find the biggest stick around and would wield it as if it were a great sword.

Several years went by at a slow and steady pace, little changed aside from Pietro adopting the role of errand boy for the local shop keepers and residents. Pietro and Slavik continued training using wooden weapons, while Tasha had begun to act more like the lady she would soon become. Life was hard but that was all he knew, until 1631 when tragedy struck, Pietro came home from his latest errand to find his house engulfed in flames, with his neighbours gathered around the front. One look at their glum faces told him his parents had perished in the fire. After that Pietro shacked up with Slavik for a few years, but his attitude had considerably darkened. Out of desperation Pietro started visiting the Pokrovsky Cathedral, trying to find some sort of reason and understanding for what had happened to his family, to his life. The old priest there could see how conflicted Pietro had become and decided to teach him the way to salvation. While under the tutelage of the old priest he learned to read and write first English then church Latin. But no matter what the old priest taught him, he couldn’t quell the dark anger within him.

Towards the end of 1633 Pietro finally came to a decision, he was going to try to make a difference by enlisting to fight in what would come to be known as the Thirty Years’ War. His growing fondness for Tasha nearly made him change his mind, but he knew he had to do something to give his life purpose. So he said his farewells to Tasha and Slavik and set off with the latest recruits to prepare for war. His training was minimal, a great sword thrust into his hands followed by a few months of cleaving up training dummies and sparring with the other young men.

In 1634 Pietro entered into battle, and proved quite talented with the great sword. Many fell to his blade, and he fought valiantly for the Catholic cause. Years went by and the war continued on, with forces varying from the Danish, to the Swedish, to the French intervening over time. Pietro fought for eight long years, quickly rising through the ranks to gain the rank of commander.

In 1642, something happened to change Pietro’s fate forever. It was a particularly hard day on the battle field, and Pietro watched several of his best solders fall to enemy blades. The battle raged on into the night, vision made possible only by the light of the full moon and the buildings on fire. While clashing swords with the enemy something or someone flashed past him, and the sound of slicing flesh and bone met his ears. Pietro turned to see a tall figure with long dark hair, carving his way through enemy soldiers at inhuman speed. He had seen a lot of carnage over the years, but nothing like this. Unfortunately, the moment that Pietro took his eyes off his opponent to stare in awe at the man’s combat, was his most life changing mistake. An angry battle cry to his right, and Pietro raised his sword, too late, to be met with a blade through the chest. As Pietro collapsed to the ground, the dark haired man turned his way. In the blink of an eye he was standing over him, “The Lord has further plans for you my son,” and Pietro blacked out.

Pietro awoke. A wonderful taste filled his mouth and senses, his body tingled in a way he had never felt before. “You have been mortally wounded… You will die… Or I could give you a new life in the darkness with me,” said the voice of Illarion, the dark haired man from the battlefield. “Help me…” was all Pietro could croak, before he coughed up blood. Illarion bared his fangs and sunk them deep into Pietro’s neck. As Pietro’s heart slowed almost to the point of stopping, Illarion stopped. He then bit his wrist and held it out to Pietro, “Drink, and this will all end. You will become one of us, immortal and damned. Refuse, and you will die, the choice is yours.” Pietro grabbed Illarion’s wrist, closed his eyes and drank. He felt the last few beats of his heart, and his life slip away with them.

When Pietro opened his eyes, Illarion was standing before him holding a necklace, of a rose wrapped around a cross. He viewed this man in a whole new light, or rather darkness, he was his sire. Pietro could sense an indescribable beast within Illarion, a power that scared him. However within himself his own beast growled, longing to be released.

Over the next year Illarion educated Pietro on the ways of the kindred and the Masquerade. Pietro learned about being a creature of the night, feeding on unsuspecting mortals and covering his tracks. During this time, Pietro also learned from his sire about the brewing kindred war between the Volmark and Valdyr.

It wasn’t long before Illarion informed Pietro of his plans to depart Germany. Illarion released him under the condition that he serves Godric Volmark as a brother of the Lancea Sanctum. Thus Pietro was brought into the feud between the Volmark and the Valdyr. The war escalated after several border skirmishes and grudge conflicts, until in 1655 when Pietro fought by the side of Godric’s childer and Seneschal, Batavia, as her Lieutenant in the Volmark army. Vilrec Langlifr, head of house Valdyr, turned out to be inexplicably absent from the battle field, to which Batavia took offense to his cowardice, unleashing her fury and decimating the Valdyr army.

From 1683 to 1698 Pietro fought by Godric’s side in the Great Turkish War, assisting the Teutonic forces. During this time, in 1685 Godric embraced Ulrich who then joined their cause. The war drew on and Pietro, Godric and Ulrich, among other Invictus Knights and Sanctum Crusaders, found themselves stranded on the island of Icaria. They fortified themselves within the village of Agios Kirykos, but things were not easy. Blood free from the taint of the plague was scarce and Knights and Crusaders were turning against each other as a result. Until the evening when the ghostly vision of Saint Maron, the Third Dark Apostle, came and spoke to them. They were told that redemption could only be found by purging blood and the soul from all corruption, and this could only be achieved by unifying the Lancea Sanctum and Invictus on the island. They became the Order of the Black Cross, and between the two covenants they removed the taint of the plague and guided the people of the island in worshipping the one true god.

The battle of Holstein in 1700 was a lengthy and bitter conflict in which the Valdyr were dominating the battle field. Pietro found himself separated from Batavia, as she clashed with Vilrec in personal combat. Vilrec got the upper hand and nearly destroyed Batavia, until Godric intervened. Vilrec fled from battle, taking his forces with him. Both sides temporarily withdrew from the hostilities to see to their wounds. Batavia descended into a voluntary torpor to relieve her injuries, and out of shame and dishonour for not being at her side, Pietro slipped into his first torpor.

Nineteen years later Pietro awoke from his torpor and discovered Batavia was nowhere to be found, but rumours were going around that she was on a recon mission in Italy.

The following year Godric embraced Lothar Volmark, who would take the position of Lieutenant in Batavia’s absence. This would be Pietro’s last time as Second Lieutenant to the Volmark on the battlefield. As hard as he fought, without Batavia by his side, he became overwhelmed by the enemy and was forced to make a tactical retreat. Pietro fled the field, but was struck by an arrow through the heart which brought on his second torpor of his Requiem. Fortunately for him, Ulrich valiantly dragged Pietro’s body to safety and woke him from torpor. Ulrich declined the offer of a life boon of appreciation, but was forced to accept the gift of Illarion’s necklace, further strengthening the bond between the two kindred.

Pietro finally left the hospitality of Godric Volmark and set off to explore and make his mark on the world. He travelled east to Moscow, and keeping hidden, visited his old neighbourhood. He discovered the graves of Slavik and Tasha, who had married, and had had a son whom they named Pietro. Over the next few years he made his way to China, before boarding a ship to Japan. He had heard word of the great skill of the Japanese swordsmen. During his time there he traded his great sword for a buster sword and became acquainted with the local kindred. He spent several years training with them, learning how to adjust from the great sword to the buster sword. In that time he learned to speak Japanese, and in return they learned about his experiences in Germany and the wars.

In 1729, Pietro bought passage aboard a ship headed for England. Whilst wandering the docks, looking for the night’s first meal, he heard talk of a new faction of the church called The Methodist Church, formed by a group of priests calling themselves The Holy Club. This seemed suspicious, almost as though kindred had been using Disciplines to corrupt the mortal world. Pietro decided to investigate into it further. He surveyed the nearby streets and could find no trace or sign of other kindred in the area. Suddenly he sensed a beast, strong and old, which quickly vanished. Pietro ran in the direction he thought it was, in a dark alley way he found the kindred Alim feeding. Not knowing what language the beast would speak, Pietro said sharply through the darkness “Stand fast or I’ll take your head!” firstly in Russian, then again in German, and lastly in Church Latin. Followed by “In the name of the Lancea Sanctum, you will explain your presence here,” again in the three different languages. To which the kindred froze and glared at him, “I persist if not interrupted. He needs head to live. I exist here to feed.” He replied in broken German. Pietro discovered Alim to be an Elder, and they had a mutual curiosity regarding the Methodist Church. Alim assisted Pietro in attaining acknowledgement from the Prince, in exchange for Pietro helping Alim identify those behind the Methodists.

During the following year Pietro attempted to settle in England, but was finding the language barrier increasingly difficult. Living in a country far different to the streets of Moscow, he decided to seek out someone to assist him in adapting to this unfamiliar world. In his search he came across a pretty, young Catholic woman working in a book store; she spoke fluent Russian, German and English. Her name was Hollie, and she couldn’t be any more perfect. Hollie spent many years as Pietro’s ghoul, and in that time they taught each other about the world and their experiences. One night while they wandered the streets together, Pietro ducked down an alley way for a quick meal, while Hollie kept watch. When Pietro returned to her, he found her lying on the ground, bleeding out from a stab wound. He had no choice; he asked her the same question he was asked by Illarion one hundred and one years ago. Die here as a mortal, or become damned and live on like him. She wanted to live on, so Pietro embraced her then and there, just as his sire did for him.

In 1751, as an attempt to break Pietro, Hollie is beheaded in front of the English court by a group of masked Crone in the Elysium. Pietro went into frenzy, charged at the closest Crone, ripped off his arm and beat him into torpor with it. Just as Pietro was about to land the finishing blow, Alim charges forth and drives a stake into Pietro’s heart, sending him into torpor. Alim takes possession of Pietro’s body and transports him back to Germany, where his body is taken into the Volmark castle. He remains there for many decades, until the Volmark kindred decide to relocate to Australia and Pietro’s body in sent to Brisbane to Ulrich’s estate.

Pietro is finally awoken in 1961, after two hundred and ten years in torpor; he was but a shadow of his former self. His once flaming red hair had changed to silver grey, and his grasp of time and reality had become somewhat altered. The modern world was strange and different to anything he had encountered throughout his life. He relied heavily on Ulrich’s guidance to gain any understanding of the time he now existed in. Pietro eventually ghouled a simple mortal man, limited of intelligence but adequate enough in handling his affairs in the daylight.

Two years later Pietro joins Ulrich and other kindred of the court in chasing the tyrant Prince Xenobia out of Brisbane. Pietro supports Ulrich’s praxis claim and assists his old friend as best he can while still adjusting to modern life. With Ulrich in power, Pietro for the first time can relax a little and spend time simply practicing with his buster sword or discussing matters of the Lancea Sanctum with others of his covenant. His understanding of the modern world is still limited, and he is slowly finding his feet on Australian soil.

Decades pass, and in 2003 Pietro found himself standing in a street with a newly embraced kindred in his arms. He realised he has just woken from a black out, and doesn’t remember the act of embracing. Was this the first embrace since Hollie? Or had he had black outs like this before? At this point in time, he had no way of knowing. In his confusion, Pietro surrendered the childer to the Prince to do with as they saw fit. As Pietro has broken the cannons, he had to pay the penance for embracing a new kindred, so he immediately returned to the Lancea Sanctum haven to be crucified.

Five years later, Pietro’s faithful, yet somewhat erratic ghoul was abducted from just outside his haven. Pietro, who was returning home from feeding, followed silently behind the vehicle to see where his ghoul was being taken. They arrived at a decent sized house on the outskirts of Brisbane, and a middle-aged man dragged the ghoul out of the car, his hands tied and a stake protruding from his chest. They went into the house and out of sight. Pietro followed in silence, down the hallway towards the male voice. He saw a female figure enter the room ahead of him, “See Ashleigh? They all thought I was crazy…” the words of the madman echoed down the hall. With the swiftness of Celerity, Pietro entered the room after her. He took one look at his dying ghoul on the examination table, raised his sword and split the madman in two. He picked up the dying ghoul, and turned back towards the door, to see a young lady standing there with twin short swords raised in front of her, stunned. “Interesting…” he said, and the girl fainted. This girl bore a striking resemblance to Hollie, Pietro pondered on her potential and picked her up as well and took her with him.

The girl, Ashleigh Grey, proved to be a valuable asset and very useful as a ghoul. The girl was open-minded to the paranormal, and thus the world of darkness. She helped Pietro understand the modern world more than he had before, and was happy to assist him in finding mortals to feed on. Pietro and Ulrich educated her on Lancea Sanctum cannons, and it wasn’t long before she was expressing her desire to join them. She served as Pietro’s ghoul for two years before she was deemed worthy of the blood. She accepted her embrace willingly, and Pietro paid his penance once again. This was the first childer Pietro had consciously embraced since his fair Hollie. Ashleigh also abandoned her name, and adopted the new name Asha Dominae. That same year Prince Tybalt saw the potential benefit in Pietro and named him Scourge of the city.

Pietro’s Requiem continues to this day.

Quotes About

"Speak no ill to me of Navishenko; in those early, wild nights of glory and bloodshed, his sword, upraised at my side, bolstered my courage if ever it threatened to fail. Never have I ridden to war beside a finer man. My trusty lancer. Shield at my back. He was my brother, before ever I had one. An insult to his honour is an insult to mine, and if you are so brave, oh, then I shall follow you all the nights of your Requiem to see it answered."

- Archived-Batavia

"An interesting first hand insight into a dark time for the Kine, he provoked me to travel for further research, an activity that felt familiar and gave me some insight to what may have come before my eclipse. To think, if he hadn't spoken in German, I would have beheaded him as a heretic..."

- Archived-Alim Al Rashid

"I could say many things about the Lance rituals to, but I won't because I'm standing next to two of them, one holding two swords, and the other holding the biggest pig sticker known to man."

- Archived-Abraham Dowsland

"He wields the powers of his clan like a club, shouts to get what he wants, and speaks without backing his words. Archived-Lothar would be ashamed of him now, I think. I hope. If he can hold the Bishopric of Brisbane, though, he's bloody well welcome to it."

- Fatimah al-Mu'allima

" He is quick to divert attention from himself and his domain with bluster and accusations, yet rarely does he prove anything. He is a strong predator that i do not question; But maybe he should focus on his followers and their needs before he starts his next crusade."

"Are we talking about the character, or the elements of the Jewish divine?"
"The former. I suppose he'd think we were talking about the latter, though."
