The Second Consilium of Brisbane

The Lighthouse

Cricket
Warlock of the Adamantine Arrow, Fist of the Lighthouse, and former Councillor of the Iron Gauntlet

Rank: Master of Mind
Path: Mastigos
Order: Adamantine Arrow
Cabal: The Lighthouse
Legacy: Mimir's Voice
Recognized Apprentices: Fus

Cricket is an older man, perhaps in his late forties or fifties; clean shaven and with short greying hair. His skin bears the scars of many years of war, and his physique belies his age. Those who have trained with him, whether as fellow Warlocks or fellow Arrows, will know that he is a stern but careful teacher with a knack for pushing people to their limits and then encouraging them to take that final step further. He speaks softly outside of battle, a mannerism that some might say belies his obvious power, and refuses to lead people directly and only offers advice and guidance. He justifies this by asserting that he is an Advisor and his voice is not one used to control, only to teach. This is also his reason if asked why he stepped down as a Councillor, with the further comment that he took up the position as Councillor only to ensure that the Council retained its Supernal mandate.

Harp
Shaman of the Silver Ladder, Head of the Lighthouse, Councillor of the Stone Book, and former Hierarch of Brisbane

Rank: Second-Degree Master of Life and Spirit
Path: Thyrsus
Order: Silver Ladder
Cabal: The Lighthouse
Legacy: Keepers of the Covenant
Recognized Apprentices: None

Harp is perhaps the nicest looking old woman you’ve ever seen. Though she bears enough of age’s marks to show her to be over seventy years old time has treated her like fine wine, refining her beauty rather than diminishing it. Those who have met her and listened to her stories, or who have had the good sense to acquaint themselves with the history of Brisbane, will know that she has been here for a very long time. In fact, she has been here since before there was even the First Consilium. She is old, wise, powerful, and deeply invested in the world of the Spirits. More than happy to take on students and teach with tempered compassion, she never the less has little time for trifling and those who have studied with her will know well that she is a passionate believer in the Elemental Precepts. Her status as a Keeper is one she shares only just enough about, stating bluntly that deeper secrets are only for those who would take up the mantle to learn, whilst her reasons for stepping down as Hierarch are simply expressed as wanting to give younger Awakened the chance to learn for when she is finally gone.

Cassandra
Enchanter of the Guardians of the Veil, Eyes of the Lighthouse, and former Councillor of the Lunargent Thorn

Rank: Second-Degree Master of Fate and Time
Path: Acanthus
Order: Guardians of the Veil
Cabal: The Lighthouse
Legacy: Votaries of the Ordained
Recognized Apprentices: Cuffs

Cassandra is a middle aged woman whose face bears marks of more aging than time should have wrought upon her. A shadowy figure, she is known to the Consilium but appears rarely and then usually only to deliver terse verbal reports to her cabal-mates. She is willing to teach newly Awakened Acanthus mages the important aspects of walking their Path, but will say almost nothing regarding her Order save for the same tenets that everyone already knows. She will likewise share little about her Legacy save that she is a protector of destiny, and says nothing about her reasons for stepping down as Councillor of the Lunargent Thorn.

Grimm
Deceased Necromancer of the Silver Ladder and former Councillor of the Lead Coin

Path: Moros
Order: Silver Ladder (Formerly)
Cabal: The Lighthouse (Formerly)
Legacy: None
Recognized Apprentices: None

Grimm was, when last seen alive, an aging man in his late fifties. The years had worn on him somewhat, but he maintained an atypically cheerful demeanour even if he did enjoy dark humour. He was well known to the Consilium, an outspoken preacher of the Elemental Precepts and upholder of the Lex Magica. His death came as a surprise to the Consilium, the details of which have never been released publicly. All that is known is that he began an investigation following the suspicious death of a Sleeper, disappeared, and his corpse was later found discarded near the domestic airport. The investigation turned up nothing, and soon became a cold case.

Zaphkiel
Deceased Theurgist of the Mysterium and former Councillor of the Lunargent Thorn

Path: Obrimos
Order: Mysterium (Formerly)
Cabal: The Lighthouse (Formerly)
Legacy: Eyes of Ain Soph (Formerly)
Recognized Apprentices: None

Zaphkiel, or Zaph as she was known to her friends, was a cheery-despite-her-years woman when she died. Known for her nigh encyclopaedic knowledge of jokes and riddles, she was respected for her equally vast knowledge of artefacts and arcane lore. In her time she mentored many other theurgists and mystagogues, as well as inducting at least one member of the Eyes of Ain Soph into the legacy. The Stonemasons were all former students of hers in one way or another. News of her death came as a tragic shock to the Consilium; despite being cabal mates with a Master of Life, the healing powers that might have saved her were simply not available when a simple road accident claimed her life.

The Stonemasons

Fossura
Theurgist of the Mysterium and Head of the Stonemasons

Path: Obrimos
Order: Mysterium
Cabal: The Stonemasons
Legacy: Eyes of Ain Soph
Recognized Apprentices: None

Fossura is a rugged, slender woman who appears to be in her middle years. Her skin is rugged and tanned, indicative of a life spent predominantly outdoors and in the field. Her eyes, however, display her keen intelligence and compassionate nature. Those who have met her will know that she is a hard-headed rationalist with little tolerance for pseudoscience and foolish superstition. They will also know that she is a through-and-through teacher who delights in the opportunity to speak to those who show a genuine interest in what she has to say.

Libri Recondo
Necromancer of the Mysterium and Heart of the Stonemasons

Path: Moros
Order: Mysterium
Cabal: The Stonemasons
Legacy: None
Recognized Apprentices: None

Libri is a slightly scruffy looking man in his late thirties, whose appearance may to the casual observer belie his intellect and passionate nature. His chin is typically covered in a two-day growth and though clean his suit bears the marks of age and use. Those who have met him and talked at any length can tell that he is a rather cynical person when it comes to business transactions, believing that everyone has a price, but when the subject turns to literature and libraries he becomes incredibly passionate to the point of seeming obsessed.

Numerus
Enchanter of the Mysterium and Eye of the Stonemasons

Path: Acanthus
Order: Mysterium
Cabal: The Stonemasons
Legacy: None
Recognized Apprentices: None

Numerus is a conservative and geeky looking young man with a bearing and attitude that suggest he is barely over twenty years old. An intense yet optimistic young man, Numerus makes no secret of his considerable self-confidence and openly believes that he is destined for greatness. At the same time, though, he does not belittle the skills or dreams of others and this combined with his ability to back up his own attitudes makes him well admired by those who know him.

Fractal
Enchanter of the Mysterium and Eye of the Stonemasons

Path: Acanthus
Order: Mysterium
Cabal: The Stonemasons
Legacy: None
Recognized Apprentices: None

Fractal is a mousey-looking woman in her mid-twenties with an impeccable if simple appearance, well groomed but not draped in fineries like make-up or jewellery. Her manner of dress is likewise well considered and practical without looking rugged or as though she mucks about with the latest fashions. Given to being quiet and reserved in public, those who have had the chance to meet Fractal one-on-one know that when the subject turns to mathematics she can become outspoken, passionate, and even flirtatious if she is engaged with intellectually.

The Gardens Point Assembly

Neogaea

AV
Shaman of the Free Council and Emissary for Neogaea

Path: Thyrsus
Order: Free Council
Cabal: Neogaea
Legacy: Imagineers
Recognized Apprentices: Remedy

AV is a slender, dark-haired man in his early 30s who has a significantly alternative look despite his best attempts to appear professional. He has waist-length hair, often but not always braided, and numerous tattoos and body piercings which his casual working suit hardly disguises and his preferred limited attire actively flaunts. Those who have met him or attended either his classes or his talks and demonstrations know that he is intense, outspoken and exceptionally charismatic. He is always noticeable and can usually make himself the centre of attention in any crowd. To those Awakened who inquire sufficiently, he will happily talk about his legacy and their mission to explore the depths of the human psyche by way of astral travel. To actually get him to assist in such an endeavour, however, is quite another task..

Remedy
Shaman of the Free Council and Member of Neogaea

Path: Thyrsus
Order: Free Council
Cabal: Neogaea
Legacy: Imagineers
Recognized Apprentices: None

Remedy is a woman in her late 30s who dresses like a modern-day hippie, wearing a profusion of beads, hand-woven clothing from South America and the occasional tie-dyed garment. She is obviously a free spirit who is not bound by conventional standards of appearance. Although not the most brilliant academic or anyone’s idea of a conventional member of the intelligentsia, Remedy is well-read, intelligent and knowledgeable. However, she is also inclined to regard her own visionary experiences and astral journeys as being just as valid sources of knowledge as anything gained from reading ancient records or studying artefacts supposedly made in Atlantis. Those who have spoken to her will know that she is a compassionate woman given to the healing arts both mundane and arcane, with a distinct preference for homeopathy and natural medicine. She’s also an outspoken political activist in the field of fair trade and refugee rights, topics which she is deeply familiar with on an intellectual as well as an emotional level.

The Praelectors

Wavelength
Warlock of the Free Council and Emissary for the Praelectors

Rank: Master of Space
Path: Warlock
Order: Free Council
Cabal: The Praelectors
Legacy: Threnodists
Recognized Apprentices: None

An older man in his mid-50s, Wavelength strikes the observer as an overgrown kid, paunchy and balding but with a mischievous smile and twinkling eyes. His wardrobe is rather varied and aging, but he generally favours the well-worn tweeds he took up when he entered academia. His pockets are usually crammed with scribbled notes along with a few cheap illusionist’s gimmicks, brainteaser puzzles and novelty gag items. Wavelength’s actions and utterances are often tinged with an anarchic but gentle sense of humour, and those who know him say that while he enjoys lecturing on his favourite subjects he would rather hear what other people have to say first. Even when confined to difficult choices, Wavelength never ceases to look for the most creative alternative.

The Salient Gears

Hephaestus
Necromancer of the Free Council and Emissary for the Salient Gears

Path: Moros
Order: Free Council
Cabal: The Salient Gears
Legacy: Forge Master
Recognized Apprentices: None

Hephaestus is a tall, lean man with close-cropped, greying hair. Despite his limp, he keeps the upright bearing of his youthful tour of duty in the army. He typically dresses in charcoal-grey suits with creases that look sharp enough to split rocks. He keeps a wallet of tools inside the jacket, though. He forged his own cane from titanium and magically enhanced it as a journeyman project. Those who know him can see that he is very much an engineer: he prefers magically enhanced technology to straight spell casting, and offering a technical challenge is the surest way to draw him into a project. Hephaestus prefers direct solutions to negotiation or trickery. He is always blunt and honest in his dealings. If he thinks a task is beyond his abilities, he says so — but he has great confidence in his own ingenuity.

Scusi
Warlock of the Free Council and Member of the Salient Gears

Path: Mastigos
Order: Free Council
Cabal: The Salient Gears
Legacy: None
Recognized Apprentices: None

A careful mixture of elegance and flamboyance are the hallmarks of his personal style. Scusi is a muscular, boldly tattooed Hispanic man in his mid-30s. Looking at and writing about the latest technology isn’t just his profession, they are central to his life. He’s sometimes described as an electronics evangelist, but he’s never pushy and his enthusiasm for devices and technology he likes is contagious. Despite spending so much time working with electronics, he loves interacting with people, and excels at watching people interact and talking to people in a manner to helps him understand their points of view, while also subtly convincing them of his.

Fingerprint
Necromancer of the Free Council and Member of the Salient Gears

Path: Moros
Order: Free Council
Cabal: The Salient Gears
Legacy: None
Recognized Apprentices: None

Fingerprint is a short, Ruben-esque woman in her late 30s. She has a neat and somewhat formal style that simultaneously helps her appear competent and somewhat distant and reserved. The meticulous habits of her profession are clearly evident throughout her life. With subtle efficiency, she orders and examines any space she spends time in. She is also an exceptionally keen observer and has a disconcerting habit of noticing small details of appearance that others miss and occasionally asking quiet questions about any inconsistencies in how someone describes an event to her. She rarely talks about herself and has a knack for asking more questions than she answers.
