History of the Camarilla in Brisbane

For context see the mundane history of Brisbane.

As a Camarilla domain Brisbane is young and dynamic. Prior to 1900 there may have been allusions to Camarilla affiliation, but most kindred historians would place the the city under an Independent banner. The first Camarilla court of the city formed in 1907 under the praxis of Mr Stone. The city and its kindred court have only grown to any size in the years since World War 2.

The Praxis of Brisbane has had a steady churn. Since 1945 there have been 13 Princes of Brisbane, not one of them has managed a tenure longer than ten years. Despite this turnover, there has never been a question of who was the Prince at any one time in that period.

In the 1930's an Anarch Barony developed on the Southern border of the city. Consisting mostly of the unruly the Barony in the early days was only a loose collection in Independents, not really promoting any Anarch ideal.

In 1944 La Belle Dame d'Lumiere hosted the first tournament to name a Champion. This tradition has continued with the tournament held every 10 years in Brisbane and a new Champion named. Previous winners are :

The next tournament is due in 2014 and is already starting to generate interest in who will enter and who will prevail.

By the mid 1970s corruption was rife in Queensland. Amongst the vampires infighting over influences, resources and territory was on the rise. The Anarchs, adopting the stylings of the punk movement, were becoming more organised under the Baron (Renee's PC). The early 1980s saw the height of antagonism between the two sects. The Camarilla developed the practices and city defences that will serve it in modern nights. The surprise demolition of Cloudland, a Camarilla haven, in 1982 almost saw open war breakout.

In 1986 the Fitzgerald Inquiry broke the back of corruption in the state. The late 80s saw a revitalisation of the State and a reduction in tensions amongst the vampires. This culminated in 1992 when the Baron who had lead the Anarchs for the last two decades converted to the Camarilla. Aside from a few militant holdouts the Anarch movement was again relegated to a nursery for Camarilla childer to sow their wild oats.

Modern Nights

Brisbane has enjoyed 20 years of peace and prosperity. The current Prince of Brisbane took her throne in late 2008.

But things they are a changing. The GFC has made everything just a little bit tougher on everyone. Queensland elected itself a new Premier in 2011 and austerity policies followed. The kine are in a state of change, and where the kine lead, kindred will follow.
