Timeline

• May 2013: I came to Kashfa to participate in the tournament.
• Jul 2013: By general acclaim I was made Regent. Rebma's previous ambassador launched an invasion of Kashfa owing to my predecessor's assassination.
• Aug 2013: Marcella replaced me as Regent, appointing me Seneschal.
• Sep 2013: Like many others, I found myself in the Mirror realm.
• Oct 2013: I retrieved a unicorn beacon from Kashfa's harbour. After initial investigation, it turned out to be of scant interest.
• Nov 2013: Part of the delegation to the Chaos Lord Uther, but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary.
• Dec 2013: Assisted with the the reconstruction of Unicornicopia, and provided a little advice to the merchants of Kashfa. Worthy work, but uninteresting to you, I'm sure.
• Feb 2013: In the wake of ongoing civil disorder, Yuma appointed me Regent again. Civil order was restored.
• Premium Game 2013: Asgardian forces cut their way through Kashfa. Jared deposes Yuma and becomes King. Marcella becomes Regent again.
• Mar 2013: Since continued service as Seneschal was morally impossible, I formally resign, leave Kashfa, and return as Rebman Ambassador.
• Apr 2014: Helped rescue one the green shard from Kandor, and shortly afterward ensured it was destroyed on the Pattern.
• May 2014: Attended Marina's memorial service. Rescued the yellow shard from a Mirror World. Attended Odin's funeral.
• Jun 2014: Completed the round of Golden Circle anti-piracy treaties, with Queen Marcella signing for Kashfa.
• Jul 2014: Discovered that Jared was King of the Pirates, and thus attainted by Kashfan Law.

Recent History

Ja’far ibn-Yahya ibn-Khalid al-Barmaki, Rebma’s Ambassador to Kashfa at your service.

Yes, it is true that I was Regent to Princess Yuma when she was but a babe. But having been kept from her Homeland in a faster Shadow until reaching adulthood by Marina bint-Brand and Marcella al-Unicornicopiani, Yuma felt that she would prefer Marcella as her Regent. Of course I understood fully: Yuma needed a Regent until she reached 18 Kashfan years in age, Marcella was her trusted Friend, Confident, and Godmother, while I was practically a stranger. I did not even raise objection that a one-year old Kashfan could hardly make such a decision legitimately. If Yuma wanted Marcella as her Regent, I was content to spend some time as Kashfa’s Seneschal, ensuring that the Palace ran smoothly, and (along with several others) tutoring Yuma.

Alas, things did not go so smoothly for the Kingdom of Kashfa under Marcella’s regency. Jared ibn-Gerard, then-claimant to the throne of Kashfa, had arranged with the Ambassador of Chaos, Max the Inconsistent, to steal a fortune from Begma to pay Kashfa’s war reparations to the Rebmans, and it was little wonder that the Begmans sought repayment and threatened consequences. There was killing of cats by those aligned with the Asgardian Priests of the Unicorn, consequent rise in vermin and risk of famine, and the murders of those who would protect the cats. And of course there was a general rise in crime, corruption and unrest in the city, thanks to the rights that were signed over to the Crab Fishermen, culminating in running battles in the streets. Princess Yuma, who had arrived while on her way to be presented to Queen Vialle, was rightly horrified at how bad things had gotten -- and so quickly decided to appoint me as her Regent again to restore peace, order, and justice to her Kingdom. And I did.

Marcella claims to believe that I stabbed her in the back. This is baseless -- let our later actions speak for themselves. I understand that Yuma felt that given the state that the city was in under Marcella, she had no choice but to replace her. So she did. And perhaps Yuma had some vague… unease at just quite what her trusted Friend, Confidant and Godmother was up to, for the moment that she granted Regency, the few and only communications she received were a couple of rare summonses on urgent Matters of State. No more niceties from her Friend. No more tea and talk from her Confidant. Not even any tutoring or instruction that a Dutiful Godmother might be expected to provide for a Royal Princess. I was quite surprised when Yuma told me this, but I supposed that Marcella, was just busy and distracted with Unicornicopian troubles and her true family.

On arrival in Amber, Jared ibn-Gerard was quick to reassert his claim to the throne now that Marcella was no longer Regent and threatened to launch an invasion of Kashfa with this as pretext if she were not restored, with an answer due one hour later. In Good Conscience, I did not see how Marcella could be made Regent again. But to spare the Poor Suffering People of Kashfa from bloodshed, a deal was brokered that would see me replaced when Vaille stepped down as Queen of Amber at the end of the day. We all -- Yuma, Jared, Vaille, and myself -- agreed to this. And yet, well before even the very hour was up, Jared launched his invasion of Kashfa.

Who can forget the many Peace-Loving Kashfans slaughtered by the Asgardian Hordes of Odin Odinsson? Those whose friends’ and families’ blood stains the very stones of the city might do well to try. It is beyond question, however, that Jared is King of Kashfa by Right of Conquest, and his new wife Queen Marcella acts as Regent for him, since he is rarely to be found in Kashfa. And while it is true that Princess Yuma has agreement with King Jared that she may challenge him for the throne when she reaches eighteen Kashfan years of age, perhaps best to forget about that for the moment as well. All you need to know is that Yuma has wed Prince Namor of Rebma, and they both think of the people of Kashfa with Great and Ongoing Love and Affection.

And so I serve Queen Moire of Rebma as her Ambassador to Kashfa, helping to build Bridges between our two Shadows and improve relations between Kashfans and Rebmans. I (of course) wish both King Jared and Queen Marcella the Very Best of Luck with everything, both officially and personally, and -- without overstepping the bounds of propriety or my office -- will assist both them and the Good Citizens of Kashfa in any way I can.
