Template:PC Summary Awakening Age: 24
Nickname: Dorna, Dornie
Sleeper Alias: Juliet
Affiliation: None.
Master: None
Mortal Relatives: Associated with Cuffs and Dresden.
Physical description: Tall and slight, Dornelia's got a wiry physique that just pushes her from 'gangly' to 'athletic'. She's lean and tough, with an array of scratches and old callouses still in the process of healing, and faint laugh lines that've formed in the corners of her mouth. For the most part, she's quiet and looks faintly vacant and uncomfortable; while there's faint traces of laughter that occasionally dance behind her eyes, they're often hidden under a mask of depressed melancholy.
Nimbus: The sound of animals chattering can be heard all around. It's accompanied by a distinct smell of fresh, plant life, mingling with the scent of the sea. In the last couple of years, her nimbus has gained a new addition, in the form of a grey mist that hangs in the air.
Membership: None

Quick Facts

Once a peppy, easy-going Mystagogue Reclaimer, Dornelia's crumbled under the losses and burdens that come with being a member of Awakened society. She used to smile easily and freely; instead she's withdrawn into herself, becoming a loner who rarely allows herself to open up beyond an occasional smile.

She's manages to get by, though. A talented scout and explorer, she's still capable of surviving and tracking for months on end, stubbornly tracking down the smallest lead through the wildest corners of the world. It often seems like she prefers the isolation that comes with it, lately, meaning she's rarely seen in public save for occasional Consilium meetings.

Timeline

  • November 1990: Dornelia's born. The first few years of her life are spent being raised by a poor single mother living in the Western suburbs, outside of Ipswich. Most of her life is spent neglected and hungry; she's a frequent patron of the Salvation Army
  • March 2000: While up in Brisbane, a certain newly Awakened Moros notices that her aura has a faint tinge to it. First discovered to be a sleepwalker by Alster, brought into the 'family'.
  • December 2005: Awakened, apprenticed under Cricket.
  • April 2007: Joined the Mysterium, while preparing for her Year 12 finals.
  • March 2008: Started Bachelor of Education at Griffith University. Becomes friends with Watchlight.
  • Late 2008: Starts detaching from the Fallen World, and using Space to go on brief 'trips' to other places.
  • 2009: Dornelia's relationship with her sister, Cuffs, begins to sour.
  • May 2009: 'Juliet Bell' fails to show up to class. Search reveals nothing. Discovered to have used Space to go to India.
  • December 2009: 'Juliet Bell' is declared missing, presumed dead, by authorities.
  • 2009 - 2012: Constantly jaunting around the globe, and frequently out of touch. Visits most major world cities.
  • 2013: Shows up for Zaphkiel's funeral.
  • 2014: Apprenticed to Lazarus.
  • 2015: Leaves Mysterium. Loses her soul for six months, for violating Brisbane's Lex.
  • June 2016: After months of hesitation, Dornelia resigns from the Brisbane Consilium, to travel elsewhere.

History

Dornelia first appeared on the horizon of the mage community with her Awakened sister, Cuffs, in 2005. Unlike her sister, she was merely a Sleepwalker, but the Lighthouse was unwilling to turn her away, and brought her in, as well. They could spend the time molding her into a quiet, earnest little Sleepwalker, install her into politics, and have a useful retainer. And if she did Awaken, they'd have a quiet, demure little Mastigos, unlike her brash, aggressive sister.

Things didn't go exactly to plan - Dornelia became a Thyrsus instead of a Mastigos. Still, it seemed like things were heading in the right direction - she became a quiet, studious Thyrsus in the Mysterium. After her Awakening, she was still little more than a university student to most of the Consilium, hoping to become a high school teacher in geography and biology. And, once she started studying at Griffith, it seemed like it'd be a comfortable way for the Shaman to finish her apprenticeship. She could study for a few years, then teach at Brisbane State High, and have a happy life while devoting herself to mastering the Mysteries of the Awakened.

But as her knowledge of the Awakened Realm grew, her interest in what she hadn't seen increased, as well. She started taking holidays, vanishing for weeks at a time, without word. Eventually, she was forced to make a choice between pursuing her traditional career in teaching, or being able to pursue the wonders of everything Awakened life had to offer. Her mistake was choosing the latter.

A happy-go-lucky type, in her opinion, will eventually be broken by the Fallen World. While Dornelia managed to endure for quite a few years, repeated losses and a severe punishment for her transgressions has visibly broken her. While there's still the occasional light joke or profanity, the occasional flicker of life a, destiny has picked her up and left her by the side of the road.

Currently

While she lives in Brisbane, Dornelia's a very inactive participant in the city's politics, instead acting as a general voice of reason on various issues affecting the Awakened. She's managed to accumulate some mild acclaim as a reasonable and somewhat even-headed problem solver in problems relating to the Space and Spirit Arcana, however. A severe lack of the ego that plagues most Awakened also makes her endearing to younger Awakened.

There's rumors that she's joined either the Guardians or Ladder, but she's made no public mention of her membership.

"Dornelia has an outstanding attitude for Magik, and now we just need to fix her attitude to Magik, so she understands it belongs to itself. She's also just really my sort of fun; she can hear the world's heart, and understands the importance of dancing in between the beats. Less around like that than there used to be, you know?"
- Sunshine, with a fond smile.
"I might ask for your help at some point [...] your social talents are greater than mine."

- Vyra Anala
"WTF? It's been three days. Called the police, found you in QLD. You're not missing, just ignoring me. We were meant to be in Paris together, wtf are you doing in Australia?

"Not at the moment."

"How long has she been like this?"
"Since she found out."

Family

Dornelia's the daughter of Dresden, and is Cuffs' half-sister. It looks like Harp's her mother, though that definitely doesn't explain why she never grew up with The Lighthouse until Dresden found her again and brought her back into the fold.

Even these facts are debated endlessly thanks to Consilium gossip. It makes a semblance of sense, though; Cuffs seems to have inherited Dresden's connection to the Mind Arcanum, while Dornelia's got more of a knack for Space. Dornelia's a Thyrsus, like Harp, and a few rumors say that Cuff's father must then be a Mastigos...

Rumors

  • Currently has a permanent home in the Spirit World.
    • Lives in the depths of the Amazon.
      • Resides in small Sanctum on the coast of Tanzania.
        • Prefers to make her home on a small island on the edge of the Arctic Circle.
          • Seriously, where the fuck does she live?
            • Ever thought of checking where the rest of her Cabal lives? She's probably there.
  • Has an insatiable desire for new experiences and discoveries.
  • Once climbed the Queensland Parliament Building.
  • There's a lot of rumors as to Cuffs' and Dornelia's childhood, and who their parents are. Mages are only human, after all, and the sibling conflict is an excellent source of gossip.
    • One is that, considering their relationship, Dornelia was intended to serve as Cuffs' retainer.
    • Cuffs hates these rumors, and apparently once challenged someone to a fight because of them.
  • Need help to get you somewhere? Dornelia and her buddies in her cabal are the best guides on the planet.
  • She isn't really going anywhere! Really, how can you people not tell that she's just nuts? Probably just tripping balls when she "goes on an adventure".
  • It took nearly a week for her to complete her Awakening.

I'm looking to have this character have visited every Mage Consilium in the world at one point or another - typically by couch-surfing her way around, then using Space to go onto some new place. If you want a link like that, hit me up! :)
