The Nemesis in Brisbane evolved from the idea of Corporal Nemesis Pledge, when a pledge is sworn on an individual that individual is granted the powers to enforce the oath by punishing those who break it. As one of the emblems the Brisbane Freehold Pledge is sworn on, this role has become slightly more ubiquitous locally as the role has expanded to punish any breach of Freehold law, their responsibilities include:
- To be one of the Emblems for the Freehold Pledge
- To be the emblem for any pledge requested of him by a member of the freehold
- To enforce the pledges sworn upon him and to punish those deemed guilty of breaching freehold law by the Adjudicator
