Maiwar

The longest river in South East Queensland, the Brisbane River runs through the Brisbane Necropolis and empties into the Sunless Sea of Moreton Bay. A wide and slow-moving body of muddy water in the Skinlands, it is a softly glowing Byway in the Shadowlands. If one travels inland the Brisbane River joins the River Styx some several kilometres before the Wivernhoe Dam. Known as maiwar to the local Aboriginal wraiths, beneath its surface lurk plasmics that are memories of ancient creatures of the continent.
In a manner that only makes sense in the Underworld, should a wraith descend into the plasmic river passed the four metre depth, they will drop into the Tempest. Once a wraith leaves the Byway of the river, they still appear to be within the Brisbane River save it seemingly has no bottom and the can now exhibit the more hazardous aspects of Tempest travel. Like all Byways, it only takes a few paces from the river for its presence to be lost to all by a skilled user of Argos.

Travel

The Brisbane River requires a vessel to travel as it is a body of plasmic fluid akin to water. However, its natural state as a Byway means it does not exhibit many of the hazardous features of the Tempest, such as boiling fluids, clouds of white-hot metal shavings, eddies of acid and so-on. The upper four metres of the river are glowing, light-brown plasm, sometimes populated by plasmic bull sharks up to four metres in length. The infrequent vessels from Stygia make their way down river from the Styx and dock in the Port District of South Bank.
It is possible to travel along the sides of the river however the dense Tangle-Trees, the Shadowlands analogue of the Mangroves, makes this a hazardous proposition at best. The developments of the 20th century can make travel a little easier, if one travels along Coronation Drive or the Southbank Parklands. The abundance of mortals and vehicles can make this difficult save late at night and early morning.
