Wraith : Brisbane

When a mortal dies, sometimes their ties to the living world prevent them from moving on to whatever paradise awaits them. Instead, they awaken in a place that resembles the familiar places of their life, but looking like a wrecking ball and a fire moved through everything, leaving a devastated landscape. Ragged gashes in the ground reveal a swirling maelstrom just below their feet and dark shapes gyrate and swirl amidst the howling winds. The sky displays no stars, just blackness reaching upwards for eternity. Then they meet their first of the Restless Dead.

Classic World of Darkness

The Storytellers of the Twilight Alliance Domain have agreed to work together to present the Classic World of Darkness games in Brisbane as part of the same world. With the support of Domain, this means crossover between games occurs with influences, significant action or inaction by players and the occasional presence of characters at different games. In all decisions concerning crossover, the integrity of both games and the contribution to enjoyment of both games is paramount.

Wraith: The Oblivion FAQ

Wraith: The Oblivion is set in the Classic World of Darkness (aka Old World of Darkness or oWoD). it aligns with the sanctioned chronicle as depicted in Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary Edition. As such, the key points that differ from the Revised meta-plot should be considered:

  • The detonation of an atomic bomb over Hiroshima, on the 6th August 1945, and Nagasaki three days later triggered the Fifth Great Maelstrom that swept the Underworld. It took decades for the storm to abate. finally dying down in the mid 1970's. Lesser Maelstroms dominate this decade.
  • Charon was last seen poling his reed boat out into the Weeping Bay as the Fifth Great Maelstrom erupted, to face a creature called Gorool, believed to be an ancient Malfean. Both were sucked down by a whirlpool into the Labyrinth. Some say thus Charon began his Third Descent.
  • Since Charon's absence, the Deathlords have quietly assumed power, ruling in his name.
  • The traitorous Guilds that once tried to overthrow Stygia remain crushed and outlawed.
  • The events of the 20'th and 21st Century continue to feed the Legions with fresh wraiths.
  • Some say another Maelstrom is brewing, many are watching for the trigger event.

What is it?

Wraith is a World of Darkness role playing game of personal horror, in which your character is a ghost, the otherworldly remains of a mortal who has died and passed beyond the Shroud. Wraiths dwell in a spiritual version of the cities of mortals, where memories and emotions are the difference between what is real and powerful and what is temporary and ephemeral. Wraiths fight a constant struggle against their darker voice within, called the Shadow, as well as the external forces of Oblivion, represented by the Spectres.
Bound to the Shadowlands by the pull of their Fetters, items of emotional importance to the Wraith in life and now also in death, Wraiths seek to understand their existence. Some work towards a mystical state known as Transcendence, where a Wraith moves on to whatever reward awaits them; be it paradise, rebirth or simply peace at last.

What is the world of Wraith like?

Many Wraiths have banded together and formed the Hierarchy, the most powerful of the Factions in the western Shadowlands. Ruled from Stygia and once led by Charon the first of the fabled Ferrymen, the ancient city of the Restless Dead built during the Roman Republic, the Dark Kingdom of Iron lays claim to any mortal that dies in its lands of the living. Seven of Charon's most trusted advisors were made Deathlords, one for each of the causes of morbidity. The eighth, the Lady of Fate, stands as a special case in all things.

Yet Stygia is only one of many Dark Kingdoms and each seeks the largest share of the bounty of souls that it can lay claim to. Many pressures are coming to bear on the Empire of Stygia and the cracks are widening as more Wraiths make moves to advance their own agendas.

The ancient Heretics, the oldest and most powerful being The Fishers, nibble at the fringes of the Hierarchy edifice. Some Wraiths want surety in faith just as some mortals wish the same in the Skinlands. The Heretics provide a dogma and support to those who need to know the answers, even if the providence is dubious.

In recent centuries, more Wraiths have forsaken the rule of Stygia; styled as Renegades they dwell on the fringes of Hierarchy territories, hounding the decaying Empire and looking for the day when they can carve out more territory for themselves.

Can my dead character become a Wraith?

No. While the genre has supernaturals from different World of Darkness genres becoming Wraiths, for the purposes of this game player character Wraiths will have been mortal during their lives. Wraith Player Character can have a background of having been a mortal from another genre; such as a Vampire's Ghoul, a Garou Kinfolk or a Mage's Custos but mortal characters from those games will not be transported to the Wraith game upon their death.
