Dissidents, Dreamers, Desperadoes and Derelicts

One of the marked differences between the rebellious youth of the Quick and the Renegades of the Restless Dead, is age is no predictor. Some Enfants are Renegades the day they cross the Shroud, others serve the Legions for decades, in some cases centuries, before they have that moment of clarity where they suddenly crave freedom above all other considerations. It is such a momentous decision for some of these experienced wraiths are abandoning many years of submitting to authority as a trade off for security and purpose. Now all those responsibilities are the wraiths to own.
In broad strokes, Renegades can be divided up based upon why they oppose the Hierarchy.

Protesters

Political Dissidents (aka Pols)
The most active and vocal group of Renegades, they count among their number modern activists against despotic regimes, to freedom fighters, organisers of slave rebellions and martyrs for causes of freedom and justice. Highly organised and most often segregated into cells for security, this group is also the most hotly divided as their cellular structure also hinders close cooperation. Pols are no strangers to getting physical with raids upon lightly protected Hierarchy outposts, interfering with reapers and breaking loose Stygian chain gangs to name just a few of their violent past times.
The Pols have an organised government in exile, a secretive leadership called The Renegade Council. According to those who claim to know, every Renegade Master is also a member of this council. Each Cell is structured akin to a revolutionary cell with a strict hierarchy of ranks; a concept whose irony is not lost on other Renegades.

Idealists

Philosophical visionaries and dreamers (aka Dealers)
These Renegades are issues advocates; in life they come from the ranks of political protestors and agitators such as civil rights activists, Feminists and their MRA opponents, environmental advocates, Gay rights activists, Small Government agitators and conscientious objectors. Amongst the Restless Dead, Dealers believe that with some considered adjustments, the Hierarchy could be transformed into a force for good.
Although matching the Pols in zeal, the Dealers are more focused on peaceful rallies, quiet sabotage and passive resistance. Preferring to refer to their Circles as Blocs, they tend to reach decisions in the manner of a committee.
These Renegades do not have an overall leadership however from time to time charismatic Masters rise from the ranks and for a time can hold vast influence over many of the Dealers.

Outlaws

Fugitives from the Hierarchy (aka Cons)
While the Hierarchy considers all Renegades to be outlaws by definition, the Cons are Renegades because they are Outlaws. Escaped Thralls, deserters from the Legions, exposed Guild members, Thieves, unlicenced slavers, lapsed Heretics and black marketeers are just some of the criminals who wind up in the ranks of the Cons. Those wraiths who were in life thugs, killers, mobsters, smugglers, junkies, arms dealers and mercenaries found their skills more suited to crime in the Underworld. For all of its horrific practices, the Hierarchy expects crime to be managed according to its laws and processes and freelancers are not tolerated.
The Cons are as much a risk to other Renegades as the is the Hierarchy; if other Renegades are not strong enough to fend off the depredations of the Cons then they simply add their corpora to the illicit commerce of the day. Cons are often so self-centred that they will watch another gange get taken down, looking for an opportunity to move in o their business.
The Cons leadership is styled off organised crime with the all-powerful Masters the head of large sprawling crime families composed of Crime Bands.

Drop-Outs

Circumstantial Renegades (aka AWOLS)
Perhaps the most varied of the Renegade groups, the AWOLS come from backgrounds such as alternate lifestylers, survivalists while some simply ignored the Dictum Mortuum and remained in contact with their loved ones. The AWOLS have little in common with one another, let alone the other Renegade groups, with Circles forming from chance encounters, friendships or even romantic ties.
The AWOLS care little for the Renegades who fight against the Hierarchy; instead they are the Reneades who saw the Hierarchy in all its towering majesty and simply said ""no"". Their leaders are usually renown for their passionate pursuit of their own interests, usually contravening any attempt to prevent them from indulging in their pursuits. Such leaders inspire admiration which can sometimes be transformed into cooperation.
Circles of AWOLS are referred to as Communes with leadership being allotted at the time of need to the one who seems most competent or simply the most interested in getting something done.

Mixed Circles

In many places, Renegades join together for mutual protection even though they do not share the same political tendencies. While it can make fireside conversations interesting, these circles are often tightly bound by shared hardship and genuine friendship.
